All PreK-8 Virtual Back to School Nights have been rescheduled to September 21, 2020. All of these sessions will be on-demand and recorded. Please be on the lookout for more details over the next two weeks.
Welcome Señora Prehn

I am happy to announce the hiring of Mary Katherine Prehn, our new Spanish teacher for grades 4-8. Mary Katherine received her B.A. from Sewanee University, where she majored in English Literature and minored in Spanish. Mary Katherine spent the past year working as an English Language and Culture Assistant in Galicia, Spain. She also has participated in the Advanced Spanish program at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona and did outreach in Quito, Ecuador as part of the Youth World program. Mary Katherine is not only passionate about language learning but also youth development programs and she has served with nonprofits both locally and abroad. She is excited to develop a cross-cultural curriculum for Spanish language learners, incorporating artistic and literary elements. Welcome!
Middle School Chromebooks

All middle school students MUST bring a fully charged chrome book to Peabody every day for class. Please help your students remember to plug their Chromebooks in to charge every night before going to bed. Due to social distancing requirements, students are unable to plug their chargers in during class time. Also, we are unable to provide loaner Chromebooks this year for use during the academic day. If a student forgets a chrome book or charger, parents will be called to deliver it to school that day.  
High School Information Session Postponed

The High School Introduction session has been postponed until there is more information available from the local high schools about their Open Houses and Information sessions. When the High Schools provide us more information, we will make sure to share it as soon as possible. If you are considering a private school option for your student, please contact Mrs. Krehmeyer or Mr. Orlando during the month of September as that process is different. Please contact Mrs. Krehmeyer if you have general questions about high schools at this time.

After-School Program

After-School will run each day from 3:15-5:30PM. Parents must register for the program using the parent portal and pay the enrollment fee before going to After-School. Additionally, in order to maintain the "team" approach we are using during the day, students will be placed into three cohorts, PreK, K-3 and 4-5. Maximum enrollments on each After-School team will be necessary to maintain distancing requirements. The maximum enrollment in PreK is 8 students, and 10 students each on the K-3 and 4/5 teams. Homework club will not be offered this year as it would necessitate the mixing of students across teams. We will use the first part of After-School to allow students to work quietly on homework.

We strongly encourage families to pick up their child(ren) at the prescribed dismissal time and not use After-School unless necessary. Having After-School care, although necessary, does impact the "team" approach we have developed during the school day. We know this may be a burden but it will help increase the likelihood of students being able to attend school in person. Thank you for your understanding as we work to keep our students and staff safe.
Are you Interested in Helping?

Many of you have asked about ways to support our teachers as we head back to school this year. Our "Team" model that we have developed to keep our students and teachers safe and physically separated in the building means that each "Team" needs their own pool of subs to rely on to make sure we can keep our community as safe as possible. We are hoping to develop a robust list of parents who might be willing to step in (we promise we won't make you!) if a teacher needs to be out in a pinch. Rather than calling in subs from outside of our community, this allows teachers the piece of mind to know that an absence doesn't increase risk for their Team. If you may have some flexibility in your schedule and might be available as a back-up sub ONLY for your child's team and ONLY in non COVID-19 situations, please contact Mr. Orlando. Thanks!

  • There is NO SCHOOL on Monday, September 7th due to the Labor Day holiday

  • Virginia also launched a new application called COVIDWISE. It is the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) COVID-19 exposure notification app to facilitate contact tracing in response to the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

  • COVID-19 Weekly Metrics: The seven day moving average(combined and scaled for Charlottesville City/Albemarle County) is 14.9 cases/100K and a PCR positivity of 7.4%.
