H.3656, Complete Streets legislation,
arrives in House committee
H.3656, the Complete Streets bill, got to its House Education & Public Works Committee, and instead of a contentious meeting, it was decided we should adjourn debate. PCC and SCLC Alliance members gathered with SCDOT leadership in the hall afterward, and then at a follow up meeting. Stay tuned. The bill didn't make it through crossover deadline (Apr 10), but it will have a chance of finishing in 2020, likely amended. Meanwhile, we work with SCDOT & the SCDOT Commission on moving the policy forward internally in SCDOT, with intent and substance. Local Spotlight: Spartanburg Freewheelers
The bike club of Spartanburg, the Freewheelers, have a safety committee that sprung into action when it was time to do so. Our state is home to a growing number of car-bike crashes, and the Freewheelers put some money together to broadcast to highway users elevate the Distracted Driving issue in our state, and share the larger message that we need to watch out for those of us on 2 wheels. This club paid for these billboards and more. You'll see 8 of them on highways in Greenville, Anderson, or Spartanburg, this Spring, thanks to the Freewheelers hard work and a valuable non-profit discount from Lamar Advertizing. Want to do this in your community? Ask us and we'll share how they did it.
