Hosted by the Wilson Education Foundation, enjoy an evening at the ballpark and see Wilson students recognized for their academic achievements as part of the pregame festivities. And, Kyle Wetherhold, West Middle School Principal, will be honored as the Hometown Hero for his achievement of being named PA's Principal of the Year! General admission tickets are available to Wilson parents, students, and community members at a discounted rate of just $2 each, providing an affordable, family-friendly evening!

Attention, Please!

Memorial Day Holiday and Last Day of School
In observance of the Memorial Day holiday, there will be an early dismissal for students on Friday, May 25, and NO school for students or staff on Monday, May 28.  District offices will be closed on Monday, May 28. The last day of school for the 2017-2018 academic year is Friday, June 8, which will also be an early dismissal.  Early dismissal times are as follows:  Secondary students (Grades 6-12) will be dismissed at 11:00am; Elementary students will be dismissed at 11:45am.


Student, Staff, And Parent Survey- Deadline is MAY 25!
We want to hear from you!  Let's work together to make the Wilson School District even better!

We are excited to announce our first-ever Wilson School District Student, Staff, and Parent Survey.  Through the survey, we would like you to share your thoughts on the District's climate. We will use the feedback received to ensure that our District offerings meet the needs of our students, parents, and staff, and are consistent with the District's goals.

Your feedback is essential to the Wilson School District, and we appreciate your thoughtful responses. Please know that all responses will remain anonymous, and will only be reported to the district as a whole. 

This survey should take no more than 10 minutes to complete and is open to all Wilson students grade 4-12, parents, and staff members. The deadline to participate is TOMORROW, Friday, May 25, 2018.

West & Southern Spanish Students Get National Recognition
Congratulations to Spanish students from Wilson Southern and West Middle Schools who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2018 National Spanish Examinations.

Wilson Southern Students 
Silver: Ashita Kumar
Bronze: Junemanuel Batista, Rachel Etim, and Nessa Purohit
Honorable mention: Julio Garamvolgyi, Jason Graham, Jheyven Lora Rivera, Ashley Harrison, Aidan McMullan, Katie Ulmer, Cristina Burz, and Paloma Rivera.

Wilson West Students 
Silver: Caryn Rippey and Colby Snyder 
Bronze: Carly Weyman
Honorable mention: Robert Calhoun, Eva Faidley, Emily Foight, Sophia Lavigna, Lauren McDonald, Medhansh Singla, and Dominick Stuhl.
Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any s tudent 
on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious, because the exams are the largest of their kind in  the 
United States with over 150,000 students participating 
in 2018.
 
Students from Southern and West Middle Schools have a long history of high achievement on these exams, and were taught by Spanish teachers, Claire Guyot, Michele Simotas, Linda Reed, and Theresa Bradburn.  

 2018 Wilson Games 
The 2018 Wilson Games were a huge success!  Despite having to move indoors due to the inclement weather, the event featured 130 athletes and 150 peer buddies.  It was a great day for our athletes to compete in a variety of events and for our community to cheer them on!

WILSON SUMMER BAND 2018!

The FREE Wilson Summer Band program is offered to any Wilson Elementary band student who played a band instrument in 4 th or 5 th grade and plans to continue during the 2018-2019 school year.

The Wilson band teachers invite students to participate on Tuesday evenings throughout the summer.   For more information and to register, click here.  The deadline is June 1, so don't miss out on the fun this summer!

Wilson Color-A-Thon Family 3k/5k Run/Walk
Come out on Wednesday, June 6 at 6:00pm!  All ages are welcome. Event starts and finishes at the Whitfield Elementary playground; the entire course is contained to the Wilson HS campus.  Register here .  The cost of $30 per person includes white tee, dye pack, and crazy shades. ALSO, we have plenty of room for family friendly VENDORS & BUSINESSES at our Finish Line Party - come promote your wares!  Please visit www.WilsonSD.org/WHSA   for details & registration. Bulldog Summer Blast Registration 
As summer approaches, we are excited to offer Bulldog Summer Blast, a fun, 6-week program taught by Wilson teachers to help foster learning through the summer months! This program, for kids who completed kindergarten through 3rd grade, will help diminish the "summer slide" and offer continued academic opportunities, while having fun outside. Camps and Clinics

Free Water Polo Clinic
Do you like to swim? Ever thought about playing water polo?  The Wilson Water Polo Coaching Staff and current players will be hosting a  FREE WATER POLO CLINIC   Saturday, June 2, 2018 . This program is open to ALL boys & girls from 1st through 8th grade! Join us at the Roy G. Snyder Natatorium for a fun morning of skills, drills, and games! This is a wonderful introduction to the sport of Water Polo. 

The skills sessions will run as follows on  June 2nd
9:00-10:00 am 5th-8th grade students
10:00-11:00 am 1st through 4th grade students

Wilson Athletic Camps & Clinics | Registration is NOW Open!
The Wilson School District offers to residents of the Wilson School District, sports camps/clinics designed to give students the opportunity to improve skills, enhance techniques, and enjoy their sport or activity. Wilson coaches staff the camps, along with Wilson athletes, and sometimes special guest staff.  Each camp has a size limit (min/max).  Registration for all camps is first come - first served.
Please be advised, if you register a child for a camp after it has been filled, you will be notified and your child placed on a waiting list.  Please visit the

Wilson Theater Company Announces 2018 Summer Theater Camp
The Wilson Theater Company is excited to announce that the Wilson Summer Theater Camp will return July 2018!  Wilson teachers, Jody and Karyn Reppert, along with fellow staff members and students, will lead elementary and middle school students in exciting and creative camps this summer!  Camps are being held July 16-19 and July 23-26,and are available for both elementary and middle school students.  For more information, please view the Camp Flyer, and to register, please visit www.wilsontheater.org.

Summer Swimming Lessons
The Wilson School District Summer Learn To Swim is now open for registration. Summer swim lessons will be offered every  MondayTuesday &  Wednesday morning throughout the summer months.  To register, please visit the Aquatic Website.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Course
Did you miss the opportunity to certify as a lifeguard this spring? Wilson Aquatics will be offering a blended learning class  June 1 , 2, 3, and  June 8 , 9, 10, 2018.  Cost is $275 per student, and will include American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.   *This class will require preparation by the student PRIOR to the course start date.  Please visit the website for further information.

 

Community Events

Reading United Returns to Gurski Stadium-- THIS SATURDAY, May 26 @ 7 pm

Reading United A.C., the  Greater Reading area's premier minor league soccer team,  recently announced that they will play all 2018 Premier Development League matches at G urski Stadium on the campus of Wilson High School.

Reading United will host their first regular season home match at Gurski Stadium on Saturday, May 26,  when they play FA Euro. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.

ALL Wilson students will obtain FREE admission to the games!

Memorial Day Parade
Hey, kids! Want to be in the Memorial Day Parade? Put on your patriotic gear and come walk with your favorite librarians from the Sinking Spring Library! Find us on Elizabeth Ave. at 9:30 am on Monday May 28; parade starts at 10 am. Parade will end on the VFW grounds (across from the library) for a ceremony. All ages are welcome!
Closing Reception of  'Bulldog & Brushstrokes'
Closing Reception Date: May 31st, 5-7pm
Please join us at our closing reception of 'Bulldog & Brushstrokes' by Jeff Stumhofer. This exhibit is a collection of new work by a 1994 Wilson High School Alumni. Jeff experiments with the interplay of color and texture. His reaction and relationship to those experiments produce a vibrantly colorful breadth of work.

Wilson Art Rocks!

Bradley Mayer Memorial Running Man 5k
The 2 nd Annual Bradley Mayer Memorial Running Man 5k will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 in Shillington.  The proceeds for this event will be used to create a scholarship in memory of this late Wilson High School & Kutztown University cross country captain.  For more info, click here
Men In Healthcare Event
Reading Hospital is hosting an informational presentation, on Tuesday, May 29 from 6:30-8 pm in the Thun/Janssen Auditorium, directed toward young men ages 13-20 interested in pursuing a healthcare career. Topics discussed will be related to the variety of career pathways associated with healthcare, the education and schooling required, and the future of healthcare in America. Spring Township Parks FREE Summer Series
Spring Township Parks and Recreation is pleased to offer a FREE summer series of events at the Cacoosing Meadows Park Pavilion.  Mark your calendar and plan to join them for some summer fun!

Wednesday, June 13 @ 7 pm:  Whimsical and wonderful - a fairy tale of a long ago time when people believed in goblins and goblins believed in people - a tale of mischief, magic, and the importance of kindness. Performed by Yocum Institute Teen Theater Ensemble.  

Tuesday, June 26 @ 7pm:  A shy little ant, accidently carried off on a cupcake, encounters a traveling flea circus, caterpillars who turn into butterflies, a hungry praying mantis, and a curious boy. Real facts about insects - a fascinating tale of transformation!  Presented by Harmony Hill Puppet Theatre.

Wednesday, June 27@ 7 pm: Magic, mirth, and mayhem! Come out for a delightfully fun evening of comedy, magic, amazement, and belly laughs - a magical evening that is sure to please everyone!
