Happy Valentines Day! Check out the "Love is in the Air" story to see how brands are leveraging diverse romances. Also, as we continue to celebrate Black History Month, NAMIC recognizes efforts to pioneer diversity advances in the communications industry. Between NAMIC's research and programming to the tireless work of our volunteers, diversity is front and center everyday.  

 
NAMIC, WICT Launch Joint Workforce Diversity Survey. NAMIC and WICT announced the launch of a joint survey for the next editions of the NAMIC AIM (Advancement Investment Measurement) and the WICT PAR Initiative (Pay Equity, Advancement Opportunities, and Resources for Work/Life Integration). NAMIC and WICT have engaged Mercer, a human resources consulting firm, to conduct the joint survey. Funded by the Walter Kaitz Foundation, the survey will focus on the current state of ethnic and gender diversity within the cable and communications industry.

NAMIC Announces Nominees For Annual Vision Awards. With an outstanding 19 nominations, HBO leads the contenders participating in this year's NAMIC Vision Awards. ESPN earned 10 nominations, followed by BET Networks garnering eight. Winners to be recognized at the Multicultural TV Summit on April 30 in New York City.

A new report has found that in 2018, more women and people of color starred in top movies than in any other year since 2007, when researchers began their study.

Smithsonian Channel has documented the book's vast impact with the hour-long documentary The Green Book: Guide to Freedom.

The New York Times reports more diverse families are portrayed in commercials as a result of a "modern society." As demographics change and the American public on average becomes more diverse, brands open their marketing to include all members of their audiences.

Black Enterprise
Patrick Coleman is packing a piece of history into the meals served at his soul food restaurant Beans & Cornbread. Throughout Black History Month, the Detroit-based bistro will offer "shoebox lunches" similar to the boxes African Americans used to store food when traveling in the south during the Jim Crow-era.

Lyft wants people to learn a thing or two about Black History on this important month so they are giving one free ride to a black history museum, memorial, relevant cultural site, or black-owned businesses in eligible communities.

Last year, Hispanic purchasing power reached $1.6 trillion. By 2060, Hispanics are projected to make up 27 percent of the U.S. population. Speaking to Hispanic audiences is essential to every brand's bottom line, yet according to a six-year ANA analysis, more than half of the top advertisers allocate less than 1 percent of their budget to multicultural.
