Summer plans taking shape across Douglas
Summer plans are taking shape across our community
There are a lot of reasons to look forward to Summer 2018 in Douglas. Beyond our area's natural summertime beauty, numerous plans are developing to bring summer fun to the community.

First Thursdays, a downtown festival that happens on the first evening of the month along 2nd Street in downtown Douglas, begins on May 3. Whether you're an enterprising youngster with a lemonade stand (see photo at right), a business owner, or a local resident looking to gather with your community, these events have been very popular. Those looking to participate Summer 2018 are encouraged to contact Megan Tillard at Allure Boutique in downtown Douglas, 358-8075.

June's First Thursday event, along with Railroad Day at the Converse County Tourism and Visitor Center, will kick off what's to be a four-day Jackalope Days celebration. The event will also include the downtown car show, the annual rainbow run, a street dance and more. Citizens and groups from across the community have been stepping forward to participate in the growing event.
Railroad Day, to be held at the Converse County Tourism and Visitor Center on June 7, is going to be bigger and better than ever before. The occasion will mark the grand opening of the train museum in the visitors center. Visitor Center staff has devoted their winter and spring to cleaning, sorting and adding railroad themed exhibits. Community members who have train-themed relics that might be displayed in the new train museum are encouraged to contact The Enterprise.

Groups, or individuals, who would like to add to the Jackalope Days celebration in some way are encouraged to phone The Enterprise at 358-2000 and talk to Cindy Porter. The occasion, with people gathering across the community, is a great opportunity for both businesses and non-profit groups. Stay tuned to this newsletter for additional news as Jackalope Days and other events approach.

The little things truly do matter in your downtown area....
Public washrooms are the number one reason passers-by stop in a town
—Destination Development International
"Restrooms should be in the heart of spending districts," recommends Destination Development International (DDI). "Once visitors get out of the car, you have a four-times greater chance of getting them to spend money."

DDI further recommends, "Make sure they are open 24 hours a day."
