Tr. Dee's 3rd Graders Host Gathering
Tr. Dee's 3rd graders hosted the Gathering this morning, explaining the Electoral College through beautiful slides and posters. They taught us a lot about how the Electoral College works. Great job! Thanks, students and
Tr. Dee!
1st and 2nd Graders Choose FREEZE DANCE
Today the 1-2 classes voted between two games, Simon Says and Freeze Dance, to be played at the end of the day. We all completed mail-in ballots, due to COVID-19, and enclosed them in envelopes. The votes were tallied by Teacher Amanda via Zoom into all four classrooms. The winner was Freeze Dance, so we gathered on the meetinghouse lawn at the end of the day, with each cohort in its own area, for freeze dance. We danced to several fun songs.
Tr. Jen's 5th Grade Math
Class
5th grade math students work with Google Dice, creating equations that use as many of the numbers on the Google dice as they can. #LFSeducation #LFScommunity
Tr. Zac's 4th graders
After a slow and gradual ramp up into learning in person, we've got our routines together and we can finally communicate with each other across the room (the fans and the distance have put up quite a challenge). After some trial and error, we've figured out how to use Zoom to have conversation, collaboration, and play — which we first tested by playing top it in break out rooms. Kids have even adapted old games into new-covid friendly ones—such as "Write Down the Lane.
Students also organized their own authentic writing project around writing eulogies for the funeral of our "class pet" Luigi the Cricket.
Snacks and Shop at the Pre-k Cafe
Pre-K students eat their snacks and lunch outdoors at the Pre-K Cafe. They also work on their leaf and stick compost lids. Thanks Tr. Kathi, Tr. Jenn and Tr. Al!! They all look peaceful and happy!
Kindergarteners Rake on Campus
Tr. Al makes sure there are rakes and tubs for every student. They clean up the grounds, and create a big pile for jumping. Thanks, Tr. Al!
Tr. Steve's 1st and 2nd Grade Art Class
1st and 2nd graders collaborated with Tr. Steve on drawings in response to their learning about Dia de Los Muertos.
Administration Says Thank You
The Admin team wanted to express their thanks to all teachers and EDP staff. So Thursday, staff were invited to take home a quart of Panera soup, and bread, and the School Community Association baked umpteen cookies for all to have dessert. Thanks to the whole hard-working staff!
Open House Nov. 17
Our next virtual Open House for Prospective Families takes place on Tuesday, November 17 at 9:00 AM. Please help us spread the word about Lansdowne Friends School to your friends and neighbors who may be looking for a school placement for the 2021-2022 school year. Interested families may call the school to register or email me at [email protected]
Thank you.

ZOOM Piano Lessons

Hi to all: My name is Emily Nicholson and I’ve been teaching piano at Lansdowne Friends School for many years. I also attended Lansdowne Friends years ago. It has been a very topsy turvy year to say the least, and I regret not being able to come in person to teach in the Meetinghouse but completely understand and support the “why”.

This is what I have decided: I can teach children who have had some experience already with a few piano lessons, but unfortunately it is not my desire to start a child out as a total beginner with virtual lessons. I have two or three slots open in my afternoon schedules on Tuesday and Wednesday and am already teaching some LFS students virtually on those afternoons who have been studying with me for a few years now. Guess what? Zoom piano lessons actually work and are not that difficult to set up, as long as you have a laptop situated next to a piano keyboard.

If you would like to have your child develop his or her musical interest with piano instruction, please contact me at 610 316 2783 (facetime is OK!) or email me at [email protected]. We can discuss whether virtual lessons will work for them.  My openings on Tuesday are at 3:45 – 4:15, and then at 5:00 – 5:30.  On Wednesday I have a 5:15 – 5:45 available.

My pricing is the same as before: $28.00 per ½ hour lesson. I have been receiving payments via Venmo, and I send an email invoice in advance of a monthly pay period.

Looking Forward,

Emily Nicholson ‘65
