MESSAGE FROM PASTOR TIM
Dear Friends and Members of Ark and Dove,
In this season of resurrection, give thanks! Thank you to our musicians and singers for beautiful Lenten and Holy Week music and lots of extra rehearsals. Thanks to our worship ministry and staff for wonderful work.
In this season of resurrection, live with joy. Joy and Laughter Sunday may help. Church and religious jokes will be shared at 9:30 and 11:00.
In this season of resurrection, stay connected to your communities of support. This Sunday we will be serving communion in worship. Come and join your church family around the communion table.
In this season of resurrection, remember to be generous. The
One Great Hour of Sharing Offering is still being received. None of these funds are for Ark and Dove.
One Great Hour of Sharing is for people who are hungry, people suffering from disasters and people who are working to lift themselves out of poverty.
In this season of resurrection, support our children and youth. Youth Sunday is April 22. Youth fundraisers for summer trips are coming.
The Easter season is 50 days in length and concludes with the great celebration of the church's birth on Pentecost, which is May 20.
May the peace and joy of Christ be with you,
Tim

VERSE AND PRAYER
Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common. With great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. (4:32-33)
Holy One, you come to us with power beyond all knowing. You lift all things out of the dust, you breathe love into every cell, you call us into communion with you and you claim victory over death. Blessed be your holy name now and forever. Amen.

GRIEF DURING THE EASTER SEASON
|
HEALING THROUGH GRIEF DURING EASTER SEASON
The Easter Season can be a difficult time for those who are grieving over the death of a loved one. All those hallelujahs do not touch the place that is hurting. Colleen Mitchell invites those who are grieving not to fake Easter joy in her blog "On What Easter Means for the Grieving Heart." Sometimes Easter can feel like a bit of rub to our hurting hearts, like the permission that Good Friday gives us to grieve our loss and our pain is suddenly eclipsed by Easter joy, and we feel pressured to just wrap it all up neatly and set it aside. Like it is a failure of our faith if we cannot happily step out of our grief all at once and embrace resurrection joy.
But this is a mistaken notion of what Easter means for us. Easter doesn't mean we can no longer grieve. Easter doesn't mean that if we truly believe that Jesus is the resurrection and the life, we will stuff down all our pain and sorrow and put a pretty "Alleluia" cherry on top of all our hurts. Easter doesn't prohibit our lament. As a matter of fact, Easter is the very thing that makes grief safe for us, that lets us embrace the pain and walk slowly through it, knowing that it has a story to tell. Easter says it is okay to touch the deepest pains of our humanity and be shaken to our deepest parts by them, because our Jesus has already been there before us and healed them.
If you are grieving during this Easter season, we hope you will join Pastor Tim and Linnie Girdner at the next Healing through Grief Group on Thursday, April 19th at 7pm in the Ark and Dove room. Whether your loss was recent or long ago, please come to be with others who can understand the difficult journey you are making. So that we have enough materials and beverages, we appreciate if you sign up on the bulletin board, though it is not required. For more information, contact Linnie at 410-999-7892 or girdnerlinda@gmail.com.
