Flipping the Narrative:
Voices Unheard, Stories Untold
The voices and stories of those who fall outside the narrative of 'dead rich white men' are still not often heard at
historic sites. We think it's time for that to change. A move to interpret historic sites and the collections within from a different perspective ensures that a more holistic version of our site's story is presented to visitors and our communities. We hope you'll join us at the GHHN Annual Conference on Tuesday, September 25 to discover strategies and find inspiration for exploring the untold stories at your site.
Additionally, we are delighted to say the 2018 Annual Conference will debut a new and exciting conference format designed to help you engage at a more direct level with our presenters. Hudson River Valley Ramble
The Hudson River Valley Ramble is an annual event series that celebrates the history, culture and natural resources of the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area, as well as the amazing landscape, communities, and trails throughout the region. Every September, ‘Ramblers’ come not only from the Hudson Valley region and New York State, but from other regions of the country as well to discover the riches our Valley has to offer.

Museum Chartering Survey
The New York State Education Department's Museum Chartering Office plans on creating and distributing a mini web series about the museum chartering process in order to inform organizations about what chartering is and the various steps within the process. We would like to hear from you about what you would like to learn about in this web series.

and culturally significant sites, locations and events throughout New York State. This effort to highlight our rich heritage aims to not only showcase the state's history and cultural significance, but also promote tourism and economic development in communities across
the state.

on Columbus Day weekend (October 6-8, 2018) - and event registration is open!

Risk management is an integral part of the decision-making process for organizational stewardship. It is especially useful for those responsible for the care, survival, and accessibility of our cultural heritage. Risk management not only involves immediate risks to the safety of objects and collections, but also encompasses all the threats to which they are exposed; both events (such as fire, flooding and theft) as well as processes (including fading due to light, cracks from dehydration, and tarnishing caused by pollution). This workshop is intended to guide users smoothly through the steps of the risk management process. Risk Management for Collections is a strategy developed by the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed, or RCE). The RCE strategy identifies, analyzes, and evaluates risks to collections.
The Risk Management for Collections program concentrates on the further development of a user-friendly method of risk management. This program, presented by
Dr. Bart Ankersmit and Renate van Leijen
, will make this method accessible to and provide attendees with the necessary information so that small organizations with limited resources may conduct risk assessments and manage relevant risks. This full-day workshop includes a lite breakfast, networking luncheon, and resource packet. Space is limited! Don't delay- register today!

We've Had A Busy Spring and Summer!
