CHARGER STAMPEDE
Thank you for your tax credit contributions to Arete Prep Athletics!

Dear Great Hearts Families,

As the Network Director of Athletics for Arizona, I work with our prep school athletic directors across the network to ensure that our students receive a robust athletic experience alongside their classroom experience. I am writing to update you on the upcoming winter season.

On Thursday, November 5, the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) informed us that, due to Maricopa County not meeting the AIA Return to Play health metrics to start winter season practices, we are required to delay the start of the season. This decision affects every school in the AIA located in Maricopa, as well as some of the other counties in Arizona.

Accordingly, Great Hearts will also delay the start of practices for the Great Hearts Middle School League until the AIA allows the winter season to begin. Current fall seasons for middle school and high school will be able to continue and finish on time. Off-season workouts and open gyms/fields can continue for high school teams. Please contact your Athletic Director for more information on your school's specific times and dates.

We will have an update of metrics and eligibility from the AIA next Thursday, November 12, so please expect an update on that from your Athletic Director. We are sorry for the delay and any personal disappointment this may cause you or your athlete.

If you have any questions please contact your Athletic Director, or feel free to contact me at [email protected].

Sincerely,
Jon Rickey, Arizona Network Director of Athletics

You may continue to register for HS and MS Winter Athletics. We will continue to communicate as time frames and official start dates become more clear. Please keep in touch with your team and Coach regarding off season opportunities, and as always, do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions.

MS A Flag Football to Play for 1st GHMSL Championship

The Chargers shut out Maryvale Prep on Saturday, 18-0 to advance to the program's first Championship game. They will take on Lincoln Prep, who they tied 6-6 earlier this season. Ben Bellomy scored two Touchdowns on Saturday to lead the offense. The Chargers have featured a very balanced attack on offense and defense all season, with an outstanding 8th grade class leading the charge! Arete will host the championship but the details are not available at time of this publication. Stay tuned!

Boys XC Advances to States for Third Year in a Row

For the third year in a row, the Arete Boys XC team qualified for the AIA Division IV State Meet. Their fourth place team finish at sectionals on 11/4 granted them to the opportunity to run at States. Wes Lannuier set the pace for Chargers in very hot conditions, finishing third. He was followed by Helaman Forsyth, Jason Rozas, Logan Hansen, Derick Ruiz, Jaden Schneider, and Noah Wesson.  The girls ran hard and had a great season, but did not qualify as a team or individually for States. Grace Stoops and Sara Tollen were the top Charger finishers at Sectionals. The State meet is 11/13 back at Crossroads Park:

Division IV Boys - 1:15pm start (11:00am early release for runners), and Awards are at 2pm.

Spectators are very limited. Please contact Coach Conklin or Coach Spano for ticketing information, which must be pre-purchased.

Congratulations Coach Spano and Chargers!

The MS XC Chargers will run at the GHMSL Championship Meet on Wednesday 11/11 at Crossroads Park. The boys race starts at 9am and the girls at 9:40am. Good luck to all of our XC Chargers!
