Why do Thrift Stores play a role on Earth Day (and every day)?

In today's world, there's a lot of buying and tossing.  This disposable lifestyle leads to more waste in landfills.  As a thrift shop, we understand the value our services play in a healthier Earth!

We give consumers the opportunity to discard items that have some life left by donating them.  Gently used items easily find a new life in businesses and homes without going straight to the dump.  Clothes, furniture, decor, toys and other housewares are big sellers in our thrift shops.

What about items with a blemish, only slightly dysfunctional, or perhaps outdated?  There's a growing population of creative consumers up-cycling or re-purposing merchandise.  Pieces from an old game might make unique jewelry.  An old ladder might be reconfigured into a desk or table.  A vintage lamp might be updated with LED lights and a coat of paint.  An old muffin tin might be a great place to sort beads or jewelry.  Or, quality furniture may take on a new life by being recovered.  Not only are the options endless, but they are also earth friendly!  These innovative buyers are practicing a thrifty and green life with clever ideas.

When donating to and shopping for items at Second Helping and The Shops at The Caring Place, you are also helping to fund programs and services that help our community.   Sales from both stores MORE than cover the operating costs at The Caring Place.  This means when our community makes financial contributions, 100% of financial donations directly impact neighbors in need.  So go ahead, shop and donate items at The Caring Place, then reuse and recycle!  The Earth thanks you!
