Young alumnae return to share
their college experiences with seniors
Young alumnae returned to SCA to share their college experiences with seniors and enjoy a Reunion Brunch. They talked about everything from how to navigate residential life to changing majors to joining clubs and becoming active members of their college communities. Many pointed to moments at SCA which prepared them for these new experiences. They pointed to AP classes  for academic rigor and suggested students make the most of club opportunities to learn leadership skills.

Amelia Leon '20 brings robotics to the Dominican Republic

Amelia Leon '20 brought robotics to students in the Dominican Republic when she traveled there with her family during the Christmas Break. A member of SCA's award-winning robotics team, Amelia worked with 35 youth during a mission trip in Yaroa.

" With the help of Ms. Petrignani, I created packets for each of them from the official LEGO Mindstorms and we created group projects for all of these students," Amelia says. " Taking Robotics I, being part of the robotics team and now Advanced Robotics enabled me to guide and teach these children how to build Lego robots."

Amelia's family members have gone on mission trips to Yaroa, the hometown of her aunt, for a number of years. This year Amelia joined them. " I was always inspired by the stories she and my uncle told as they returned from DR on mission trips for the last five years."

Amelia concludes, " This was a great opportunity to fulfill the great SCA Mercy mission (Mark 16:15) which says 'Go preach the Gospel to every creature.'  This doesn't necessarily mean to do it through sermons but you can use your gifts and talents. In my case, my knowledge of robotics allowed me to be a witness of  God's grace and love to these children, like we are a sisterhood on the robotics team, helping each other building award winning robots to compete with."
