Principal's Message
February 2, 2018
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:
Celebrating Catholic Schools Week has been the theme of this week. At morning prayer, students viewed the OLQP school video, heard the story about how Sr. Antoinette founded the school, and were challenged to become saints. They shared snacks and talked about the Communion of Saints. Students competed in the Religion Bowl and demonstrated their knowledge of the Faith.
Amidst the celebrations and extra-curricular work, students continue to work on project based learning (science fair) and their daily obligations of AR reading, vocabulary development, math practice, journal writing, and more.
When talking to students about what they like best about attending this Catholic school, here are some of the things they said:
What we like best about our Catholic school, OLQP:
" Learning, friends, playing outside, building towers and pyramids, being quiet and praying..." (PreK)
"Having friends, making new friends, playing sports and P.E., Field Day, math, ALL the classes, STREAM Lab, science activities, art, reading, enthusiastic teachers, lunch, going to Mass, praying, EVERYTHING..." (Lower Elementary)
"Awesome classmates, everyone is nice, quality education that puts you ahead, soccer, basketball, PE, teachers who are 'nice, fun, happy, cool, supportive,' ALL the food, an environment that is helpful and God-centered where someone is always there to help whether the need is personal or academic, morning prayers that are joined by more than one voice and answered, learning about God, to practice our Faith freely, attend Mass and Adoration,
EVERYTHING..." (Middle School)
I could not have said it better myself! Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.

OLQP National Geography Bee
On Wednesday, OLQP held the annual, local National Geography Bee. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the National Geographic Bee. The local competition is the first step towards a $50,000.00 college scholarship. Thousands of schools around the country participate. The school champions, including Luke Pottratz, take a qualifying test. The top scorers in each state on that test will be eligible to compete in the state bee on April 6, 2018.
Everyone can test their knowledge of geography with the exciting Geo Bee Quiz on-line @ www.nationalgeographic.org/bee/study/quiz. This site poses ten new questions a day and with the National Geographic Geo Quiz Alexa skill, six new questions per day are released. In honor of the 30th anniversary of the Bee, National Geographic has also published an updated National Geographic Bee book: " How to Ace the National Geographic Bee: Official Study Guide, 5th Edition." by Stephen Cunha.
