St. Johns County 4-H Events and Updates
|
 4-H Public Speaking Contest Winners
Twenty 4-H youth, ages 5 to 18, demonstrated their public speaking skills with a 4-H presentation or illustrated talks on March 22. The following participants received a blue ribbon and are eligible to compete at District Events on April 21 in Flagler County: Cayla Smith, Lily Simmer, Mitchell Horine, Gavin Williams, Helena Peterson, Wren Aboulafia, Benjamin Clark, Sammy Clark, Stana Smith, Kyler Smith, Mariah DeRenzo, Nick Wiswedel, and Emett Peterson.
Sixth Annual 4-H Expo
The 6th Annual 4-H Expo will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 5th at the St. Johns County Extension Office. A variety of 4-H contests, exhibits, and club displays will be on site. This event is open to the community and everyone is welcome to attend.

St. Johns County Horse Council
|
 The St. Johns County Horse Council is a local nonprofit that strives to promote, defend, and propagate equestrian interests in St. Johns County. Since being established in 1999, the Council has become involved in promoting all types of equine activities and raising awareness regarding the economic impact the equestrian community has in St. Johns County. In addition to quarterly public meetings, the Council hosts numerous events at the St. Johns County Equestrian Center for handlers of all ages and experience levels. Working Together: St. Johns County and UF/IFAS Extension
|
 The St. Johns County Board of Commissioners and the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension work in a cooperative effort to provide relevant programming to citizens throughout the County. UF/IFAS is a federal-state-county partnership dedicated to developing knowledge in agriculture, human and natural resources, and the life sciences, and enhancing and sustaining the quality of human life by making that information accessible.
The UF/IFAS Extension Office recently release their 2017 Annual Report, which highlights economic impacts, awards, and programmatic highlights that benefited St. Johns County last year. Northeast Florida Economic Development Strategy Survey

St. Johns County Economic Development is encouraging residents and business owners to participate in the Elevate Northeast Florida survey at www.elevatenefl.com to help define the region's future economic development strategy. The deadline to complete the survey is April 13. The purpose of the Elevate Northeast Florida program is to continue the region's positive economic development and job growth, and enhance Northeast Florida's brand in the United States and internationally. Volunteer Opportunities with St. Johns County Boards and Committees

The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners provides residents who have an interest in participating in their local government with a variety of board and commission opportunities. Depending on the board or commission, the volunteer positions consider and make recommendations regarding a myriad of topics including planning and zoning issues, development projects, the library, parks and recreation facilities and programs, and arts, culture, and tourism matters. St. Johns County Healthiest County in Florida for Seventh Consecutive Year
|
For the seventh year in a row, St. Johns County has been named the healthiest county in Florida by the University of Wisconsin and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The County also ranks first in the State in health factors in the ninth annual County Health Rankings and Roadmaps Report, released in March 2018. For additional information, please visit

St. Johns County Community Development Block Grant Survey

St. Johns County Community Garden Plots Available

 The St. Johns County UF/IFAS Extension Office, 3125 Agricultural Center Drive, currently has plots available in its community garden for those who would love to grow their own vegetables but do not have land on which to grow them. St. Johns County Libraries Celebrate National Library Week

 The St. Johns County Public Library System invites residents and visitors to join in the celebration of National Library Week from April 8 through 14. Every year, libraries across the nation set aside one week to honor the importance of libraries and how they enrich communities. This year, libraries are focusing on embracing leadership at local branches. St. Johns County Public libraries are offering special programs throughout the week, including a social media promotion for a chance to win various prizes. St. Johns County Summer Exploration Camp and Freshwater Fish Camp

Exploration Camp
July 23 through 27 for ages 5-8 (*completed kindergarten)
July 30 through August 3 for ages 9-12
Join St. Johns County's Park Naturalists for a week-long Exploration Camp where children will have an opportunity to explore the natural world around us. Campers will have an exciting week full of field trips while expanding their understanding of local ecosystems, sustainability, and how to collect and analyze data like a scientist. Campers will also study the amazing wildlife in St. Johns County and participate in hands-on activities. St. Johns County Exploration Camp will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Ketterlinus Gym, 60 Orange Street. Registration is $100 per participant and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Freshwater Fish Camp
July 23 through July 27
St. Johns County Parks and Recreation is teaming up with the Florida Wildlife Commission to offer a Freshwater Fish Camp for middle school students from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Trout Creek Community Center, 6795 Collier Road. Campers will learn about freshwater fish and their habitats, boat safety skills, the proper tackle to use in freshwater, and how to properly clean fish. Campers must have completed 6th grade to be eligible for this camp. The program is limited to 20 campers and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Bird Watching and Recreational Opportunities at Masters Tract
|
 St. Johns County's Masters Tract has emerged as a prime location for hiking, bird watching, photography, and general wildlife viewing in the Hastings area. Located at 7756 Hub Bailey Road and open from dawn to dusk daily, the facility consists of a pond, wetlands, and wildlife habitat near Deep Creek and the St. Johns River. Pedestrians and bicyclists are welcome to explore the area but are asked to stay on the berms. Motorized vehicles, fishing, swimming, boating, and hunting are prohibited. Celebrate the 14th Annual Bartram Bash with St. Johns County
|
 Come celebrate the First American Born Naturalist, William Bartram, at the 14th Annual Bartram Bash on Saturday, April 14th from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Alpine Groves Park, 2060 State Road 13, Switzerland. This family-friendly event is free, open to the public, and will feature "Skin & Bones" performing a live Old Florida Hoedown, music by Tommy Bledsoe, educational booths, kid's games and activities, yoga in the park, Stetson Kennedy Award presentations, a William Bartram reenactor, and an 8 a.m. bird walk with St. Johns County Audubon President, Jean Rolke. St. Johns County Holiday Hours
|
Memorial Day - May 28
All departments of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, St. Johns County Administrative offices, library branches, and the Pet Center will be closed Monday, May 28 in observance of Memorial Day. All offices and branches will resume standard business hours on Tuesday, May 29.
Garbage, recycling, and yard debris collection schedules will not be affected. The Tillman Ridge and Stratton Road solid waste scale houses will remain open on the holiday during standard business hours.
