Improving Mentoring Across Differences

The annual winter site-based meetings for the Academy of Medical Educators have become a popular venue for Academy members to connect with colleagues in smaller settings at various UCSF campus locations. The meetings provide an opportunity to share issues and experiences that can be difficult in a larger group.   

This year, the Academy took some time to reflect on the value of mentorship in educational settings and apply their mentorship experience to experiences around diversity, equity, and inclusion.
For Better or Worse: Context Influences Diagnostic Decision Making

The much celebrated clinical reasoning researcher, Henk Schmidt, gave Medical Education Grand Rounds at UCSF on February 22, 2018, on the topic of "For Better or Worse: Context Influences Diagnostic Decision Making." Dr. Schmidt is a professor of Psychology at Erasmus University in Rotterdam and is the preeminent researcher in physician diagnostic and clinical reasoning. He and his colleagues use experimental psychology laboratory studies to explore controversies in clinical reasoning.

Tips and Tricks from Experienced Editors for Getting your Education Scholarship Published

Different types of publications (review articles, book chapters, original research articles) have differing impact on one's academic career. Authors frequently struggle between combing too much data or submitting too little data in a paper. The ability to have a manuscript accepted for publication depends mainly on the quality of the submitted work. However, there are strategies that can enhance the manuscript's chance for acceptance.
