The Committee

The Committee focuses on the communication needs of learners who have severe and multiple disabilities. Several new members joined the committee at the recent CEC Conference. We are in need of members to support the writing of monthly messages and other projects the group may identify.

Susan is also the Division's representative to the National Joint Committee on the Communication Needs of Persons with Severe Disabilities. Over the past year monthly messages have focused on the 15 rights included in the Communication Bill of Right s , an important tool for advocacy.

Currently Working on:

Susan is currently working, with co-authors, on two chapters for a new Gallaudet University Press publication on Deaf with Disabilities (DWD) edited by Caroline Guardino and Joanna Cannon. One chapter is about common syndromes of DWD and the other is about critical issues in deafblindness.

Dissemination on a series of action research studies conducted in recent years.

Dissemination on a Communication, Language, and Literacy study with colleagues in Missouri and the Netherlands.

Susan is kept busy as a Department Chair.
