"Over There" at the Wentworth House
Sunday, May 27th, 10am-4pm
Colonel Paul Wentworth House, Water Street, Rollinsford
One hundred years ago, the United States was engaged in one of the most devastating conflicts in human history: World War I. Discover the stories of American men and women who served at home and overseas, and the impact of the war on the home front as we commemorate the centennial of World War I with1918: "Over There" and Over Here, a living history event at Rollinsford's historic Colonel Paul Wentworth House on Sunday, May 27 from 10 am to 4 pm. During World War I, the nation, its industry, the people at home, and over two million men and women serving in the armed forces and auxiliary groups overseas all struggled together in the mighty conflict. At this one-day event, historical re-enactors in period clothing will portray the military and civilian roles of the time. A wide range of artifacts from the war and the home front will be on display, and music and film footage from the era will be played throughout the day. Admission to the event is $5 for adults; free for children and ARCH members.

The 75th Annual NH Soap Box Derby Local Championship race will be held on Broadway Avenue, from 9am to 3pm. Boys and girls ages 7 to 20 are invited to build, then race a gravity powered car in side-by-side competition. Spectators are free; bring a chair and take a seat along the course to cheer on the more than 30 racers. The winner in the three classes of cars (Stock, Super Stock and Masters) will be eligible to compete in the FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby Race in Akron, Ohio. Walking Tours of Historic Dover
Begins Saturday, June 2nd and runs through Labor Day Weekend
The Dover Chamber is once again offering walking tours of historic Dover on Saturday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Three different 90 minute walking tours will be offered throughout the summer, and take place from one of three Dover locations as specified on the tour schedule.
The next Downtown Tour will be held on Saturday, June 2nd at 10:30 a.m. leaving from the Dover Chamber Visitor Center at 550 Central Avenue in Dover. Take a guided stroll down Central Avenue and the Central Business District, learn all about the rise and fall of the textile industry and Dover's Black Day while hearing personal tales of Dover's history.
Reservations are recommended, and can be made by calling 603-742-2218 or email [email protected]. Walking Tours cost $10 per person with $25 limit for families. More information can be found at www.dovernh.org/tours.
