What is the 2019 Village of Whitefish Bay Property Revaluation Project?
- The last village-wide property revaluation was conducted in 2014.Tyler Technologies’ Appraisal and Tax Division was recently contracted to complete the 2019 revaluation.
- Property owners should expect to receive a notice of their 2019 assessment in early June 2019. The value on that notice is intended to represent the full market value of that property as of January 1, 2019.
- It is important to note that the revaluation process in itself does not mean more taxes. That is, property values are adjusted to reflect current market conditions throughout the village, leading to a more equitable distribution of taxes based on the current market value of each property.
As part of this revaluation project, will pictures be taken of the outside of my home?
- Yes, Tyler Technologies will be in the field updating digital images of the homes and businesses in the village. These images will assist the Assessor’s Office in establishing your 2019 assessment. Photographers will have IDs issued by Tyler.

Feature Story: 2019 Property Revaluation
|
|
The Assessor’s Office has recently updated its schedule for the village-wide revaluation:
Tyler Technologies’ Appraisal and Tax Division was contracted to complete the revaluation, as well as perform assessor services for the Village.
The last village-wide revaluation was conducted in 2014. Since then, the average level of assessment or assessment ratio (assessed value compared to actual market value) fell to to 90% and would drop to the 85% to 86% range in 2019 without performing a revaluation. State law provides for a timetable for a municipality to complete a revaluation once the assessment ratio falls below 90%. The 2019 revaluation will bring assessments back to near 100% of market value in order to comply with state statutes.
Properties that sold during the previous two years will be researched and considered in establishing new values throughout the community. The 2018 (previous year) assessments were still based off of sales that occurred during 2012 and 2013.
Initially for the first phase of the revaluation, representatives of Tyler Technologies will be in the field updating digital images of the homes and businesses in the village. These images will assist the Assessor’s Office in establishing your 2019 assessment, as well as ensuring the assessment records are current to date with exterior information.
It is important to note that the revaluation process in itself does not mean more taxes; that is, property values are adjusted to reflect current market conditions throughout the village, leading to a more equitable distribution of taxes based on the current market value of each property.
Property owners should expect to receive a notice of their 2019 assessment in early June 2019. The value on that notice is intended to represent the full market value of that property as of January 1, 2019, as indicated by comparable sales in the village and will include instructions on how to contact the assessor’s office in order to discuss the 2019 assessment if desired, as well as the dates for the Open Book and Board of Review.
The “Open Book” period is the time owners may informally discuss the 2019 value with representatives of Tyler Technologies if they are in disagreement with the value or have general questions. The Board of Review is a formal appeal process that operates similar to a court and property owners must prove by way of evidence and testimony that the assessment is incorrect when appealing an assessment to the Board of Review.
The 2019 assessed values of properties will be reflected on the tax bills in December of 2019. If you have any questions regarding the revaluation, please contact the Assessor’s Office at 414-962-6690 extension 124.

2019 Comprehensive Plan - Public Input Needed:
|
|
The Village has just started the process to update its Comprehensive Plan. Come find the Comprehensive Plan Booth in Klode Park during Bay Day on May 4, 2019 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm to give feedback on the plan, future land use and development, and Whitefish Bay community goals. This is the primary community feedback event - we look forward to seeing you there!
This Public Participation Plan has been created to provide a variety of opportunities for community members to (a) learn about the comprehensive plan update at each stage of the process; (b) provide input, feedback, proposed changes, and new directions; and (c) voice feedback directly to decision-makers before the plan is approved and adopted. Topics include social justice issues, environmental problems, global concerns, and much more. Our unit culminates in creating and presenting collaborative projects to an audience. This exhibition is a signature event in seventh grade, and students are very excited about it.
This year’s Human Ecology Exposition is on Friday, May 17, from 1:15-2:45 PM in the Seventh Grade Commons of the Middle School.
If you are able to attend, please bring your driver’s license for our security system. We would love to see you there!

News from the Health Department:
Did you know? According to the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, stroke is the fifth-leading cause of death in the United States. In 2017 alone, 2500 people died of stroke in Wisconsin while thousands of survivors were left with permanent disabilities. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures and bleeds (hemorrhagic) or when there is blockage to the blood supply to the brain (ischemic). The rupture or blockage prevents blood and oxygen from reaching the brain’s tissues. Without oxygen, brain cells and tissue become damaged and begin to die within minutes.
Many major strokes are proceeded by a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA or mini stroke) which have similar symptoms to stroke but disappear after a few minutes or hours. Seeking medical intervention after a TIA can help prevent a major stroke.
Any one can have a stroke at any time, but there are specific risk factors, such as smoking, advanced age, and medical conditions such as high blood pressure (hypertension), high cholesterol, diabetes, sickle cell, coronary artery disease and atrial fibrillation. Seeking prompt help for treatable conditions can lower risk of stroke. Up to 80% of strokes are preventable.
Signs of stroke include: Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arms or legs, sudden confusion or trouble speaking or understanding others, sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes, sudden trouble walking, dizziness, or loss of balance or coordination, sudden severe headache with no known cause.
If you suspect stroke-call 911. Time lost is brain lost. Every minute counts.
