Pictured above is our Freshman Mentor Program logo.  We offer a great transitional program for our freshman to get them involved and comfortable at Cooper HS.  More information will be coming as the 2020-2021 school year gets closer.

Course Request 20-21

At the high school level, students/parents are given the opportunity to request courses they would like to take each year.   Finalizing your requests occurs each year towards the end of January through the middle of February. We develop our master schedule of course offerings, hire teachers and determine the number of sections for each course from what our students request through this process.

We encourage students to challenge themselves by taking honors, AP (Advanced Placement) or Dual Credit (College Level) courses.  We currently have over 50% of our students in honors or beyond courses.

Events that are coming up to be aware of and/or mark your calendar to attend:

Thursday, January 30th:
Cooper HS Field Trip for all incoming freshman.  We are coordinating this with all of our feeder middle schools (Ballyshannon, Gray, Ockerman and Camp Ernst).   Your child will spend approximately 90 minutes in the Cooper auditorium for an orientation of scheduling classes.  They will be transported via school buses to Cooper. Students will receive a Course Guide and a Course Request Sheet during this time.

Thursday, January 30th:
Parent Information Night for our incoming freshman parents.  This begins @ 6:30 p.m. in our auditorium.  Please bring the course guide that your student received from the field trip to Cooper.  We will have content area teachers available after the meeting to answer any specific questions you may have.   Plan on spending about 90 minutes with us; 60 minutes for the meeting and 30 minutes for specific questions with content area teachers.

Wed., Feb. 12th and Thurs., Feb. 13th:
We have set aside parent conferences on both of these dates, in the evening, so we can provide one-on-one mentoring and advising to finalize your child's schedule.  The 15-minute parent conference
is designed to answer any further questions you have and to give one final look over what courses you, your child and teachers are requesting for next school.  If there is a course the teacher is requesting your child to take that you feel is not the best fit, we will have a challenge form for parents to fill out and sign.

Parents will sign off on the course request at the end of the parent conference on either Feb. 12th or 13th.  A phone call or email (Sign-Up Genius) should be coming your way between now and Jan. 20.  If you have not heard from us by Jan. 20, please call our main office (859.384.5040) so we can connect you to one of our teachers to confirm a date and 15-minute conference time.

On Feb. 13th the time frame is from 3:30-7:00 and on Feb. 14th the time frame is from 3:30- 7:00 p.m.

I look forward to seeing you at these upcoming events!
