HEADMASTER LETTER
Parent Potpourri
“How supportive is your parent community?” is a question posed to me frequently, both by prospective parents and potential employees. I am able to proudly and honestly reply, “The parent community at ANP is amazing. The parents care deeply about their children’s education and manifest that in so many ways – volunteering, advocating, and giving. The parents love their teachers and are generous in their expression of that appreciation, and it, in turn, helps the children to love their school.”
Last Saturday several families volunteered their time and resources to give the campus a deep clean. Scholars scrubbed the hallways to erase the pencil marks. The dumpster detail cleaned up the surrounding area, compensating for all those who have poor aim. Power washers removed residual buildup from concrete surfaces, and it’s just fun to use a power washer. Many others helped in a variety of ways, investing their time on a Saturday morning that impressed us Beautifully.
In addition to the weekend warriors, there are volunteers on campus daily. I see them in the car line, opening doors for drop-off. I see them making copies for teachers as I walk by the faculty workrooms. I see them putting out snacks for our hungry teachers. I see them sitting on the floor in the hallways, patiently listening to scholars sound out those early words of literacy. I see them on the playground, providing an extra set of eyes. Our parent volunteers are outstanding and are an integral component to the success of ANP.
This week marked the 100
th day of school, and Ms. Curtis, our Academy Giving Manager, provided an opportunity to donate $100 in honor of the 100
th day. We appreciate all of those who clicked the button and responded with a gift. To date, 44% of our families have contributed to the school financially, and I am hopeful that we can reach this year’s goal of 50% participation.

Next week you will have another opportunity to help the school – by participating in the Great Hearts survey. Every few months Great Hearts sends families a brief survey to gauge parent satisfaction with the quality of education that our academies provide. It is important that we hear your voice. The results of the survey are used to make some significant decisions, so it is critical that the data accurately represents the sentiment of the entire community.
Thank you for helping us build such a great environment to educate your children. Together we are cultivating the hearts and minds of scholars through the pursuit of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty.
Truly,

BULLY-PROOFING YOUTH
On February 13th, Jim Bisenius, a child and adolescent therapist, will be returning to ANP to teach our students (grades 1-6) how to appropriately respond to various forms of bullying. As an additional educational opportunity, Mr. Bisenius will offer a parent presentation on Wednesday, February 12th from 6:00-7:30 pm at Archway North Phoenix. During this presentation parents will learn what to do and what not to do when their child comes to them for help with bullying issues. The training will cover exactly how to teach your child or teenager to respond to verbal bullying, physical bullying, social bullying, group manipulation, as well as cyber-bullying. Mr. Bisenius will go into great detail on strategies for students that are excluded, shunned, and socially targeted. He will also cover the body-language techniques that students need to learn in order to react with confidence, and not accidentally make the situation worse.
