FALL IS HERE!
The Webb Forest is beautiful forest land to the west of Pleasant Lake in New London, protected by conservation easements held by Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust and other entities. There are numerous trails in the Forest, well-maintained by the the New London Conservation Commission. You can see cascading waterfalls on Great Brook, plus a wide variety of trees and other flora. The historical features are well marked.

This movie is about the old Bunker Farm homestead, with its small open fields, apple trees and stone walls. The cellar holes are very easy to see and understand. During foliage season, this entire area is ablaze with every warm color you can imagine. If you care to visit this site, it is about a 15 minute walk from a parking area on Lakeshore Drive.
"The real things haven’t changed. It is still best to be honest and truthful; to make the most of what we have; to be happy with simple pleasures; and have courage when things go wrong.” These words of Laura Ingalls Wilder, 1867~ 1957 could well apply to the year of 2020, when much has gone wrong. Even in these uncertain times, we have learned to take joy in simple pleasures, stay hopeful and be thankful to be living where we do, in the riches of New Hampshire’s natural bounty.
At this point in time we are merely 27 days to Election 2020. The Presidential election is well covered in the news media. However, with COVID restrictions, traditional Candidates Forums for local offices are not possible.

Project Sunapee thanks The League of Women Voters for making these ZOOM forums possible.

CUE THE MUSIC
The Sandhunter” by Silkroad ensemble member, harp master and composer, Maeve Gilchrist.
Ari Hest opened The Livery’s concert series in the summer of 2019.  Concerts were cancelled by the circumstances of this year… however, we look forward welcoming him back to The Livery stage in the summer of 2021.
NOTABLE THIS WEEK
Monday was “World Teachers Day”. With all the challenges to our teachers during the pandemic. We celebrate and thank our teachers every day!
Nobel Prize Week

While the world wants flashy quick fixes for everything, especially massive threats like the coronavirus and global warming, next week’s Nobel Prizes remind us that in science, slow and steady pays off.

It may soon do so again.

Science builds upon previous work, with thinkers “standing on the shoulders of giants," as Isaac Newton put it, and it starts with basic research aimed at understanding a problem before fixing it. It’s that type of basic science that the Nobels usually reward, often years or decades after a discovery, because it can take that long to realize the implications.

Slow and steady success in science has made researchers hopeful in the fight against the pandemic. It even offers a glimmer of climate optimism. READ STORY

STAY SAFE
There is a risk to being cavalier, none of us are untouchable, not even the president of the United States can escape exposure to this deadly virus. Lesson learned... to be safe, we must all wear a mask, wash our hands, observe proper distancing and be responsible to others as well as ourselves.
