THE
MONDAY
MEMO
Embracing Our Mission
By Rev. Doug Conley

General Council in Orlando is just six weeks away. I hope you are planning on attending! It will be a great time of worship, inspirational preaching, insightful seminars, meaningful conversations about where the Alliance is heading in the future as well as important times of fellowship and networking. One of this year's seminar speakers will be our own Jen Ashby serving at Derwood Alliance in Rockville. We will also be hosting an evening reception. It is a good time to connect with Mid-Atlantic workers present and past. Council pre-registration ends on April 24 so make sure to  register!

One of the highlights of this year's Council will be the commissioning of 60 new international workers (IWs), the largest group of new workers sent in many years. 9 of those new workers will be from our district. These workers will be carrying the gospel to places in the world with the least access - to those who truly have never heard. Your presence would send a message of strong support to those who are following God's call to difficult and dangerous places.

GREAT COMMISSION DAY 2019: We're Sending!

Back in November, John Stumbo issued a challenge to U.S. church leaders to rally together and send 60 new international workers who were called by God, vetted, prepared, and eager to take the gospel where little to no access yet exists. And the Alliance family responded through the 2018 Alliance Year-End Offering-more than doubling what was received from the previous year's offering and conveying the clear message: WE WILL SEND! With this bold assurance, the C&MA Board of Directors, at its February meeting, approved 50 of these 60 workers to go.

Now we have an opportunity to come together once again to make sure all 60 new workers are approved and sent to live and work among the world's least reached and most over-looked. In April, Alliance churches will receive the Great Commission (GC) Day Offering materials, themed We're Sending.

Will you encourage your congregation to continue the momentum?

cmallianceKiDS Missions Giving Project

Back by popular demand-our cmalliancekids missions giving project! This is a great opportunity to point your churches to specific giving from kids to kids. The project works well as a part of VBS, Sunday school, or a midweek children's program. This year funds will go to the Family Village Orphanage in a Southeast Asian country. We have more information (including printable handouts and videos) about the orphanage, its needs, and how to give at www.cmalliancekids.com/missions.
Equip America

Looking for a training for your congregation that teaches them a simple, effective way to share their faith? If so, interested participants can attend one of numerous training's to be held across the United Sates or your church may even host one!

Equip America is a day-long teaching by Evangelism Explosion International that empowers Christians to share their faith in a nonthreatening way, with kindness and confidence. It provides on-the-job training and experience in just 7.5 hours (including a free one-hour lunch). By the end of the day, each participant will have a taste of how to be an effective witness for Christ.

Church Ministries shared information about this program with all district superintendents and association presidents during the November 2018 InterChange meeting. Still have questions or want to know more? Contact Jeff Reecer, Equip America coordinator, at
(828) 231-8947 or jreecer@eeworks.org.

Clergy Housing Allowance
From Gary Friesen/C&MA General Counsel

Attached is the decision of the U.S. Court of Appeals, 7th Circuit, upholding the clergy housing allowance. This ends the latest- and certainly not the last-attempt to overturn this tax benefit. Since this is a frequent question from our licensed workers, you may want to consider distributing this information in some way.
