Distinguished Visiting Critic
. García-Abril is a professor in the School of Architecture and Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) and founder of the award-winning Ensamble Studio in Madrid. His work has been widely published and exhibited. The title of his lecture will be "On/Off."

Join AIA Charlotte, The Speak Easy, and Cluck Design Collaborative for our second annual Architecture Month Bike Crawl. The crawl will take off from The Spoke Easy and make several stops throughout Charlotte including...special access to The Panthers Stadium!!!!
The event is free and open to the public, but space is limited. Participants must bring their own bike (or rent one from B-Cycle) and helmet.

An event reception with a cash-only bar and free light bites begins at 6 p.m. in the Bechtler lobby followed by the presentation and film screening at 7 p.m. in the Wells Fargo Auditorium. Tickets are $10 for the public, $8 for museum members, and $5 for students

Lenny Boy Brewing
April is Architecture Month, and it features
the popular charitable design/build event, CANstruction.
CANstruction is a national competition that engages the AEC community to help feed hungry people. Competing teams will design sculptures made entirely out of canned foods to build at Lenny Boy Brewing on April 28. A jury will select and award teams for the following categories:
- Structural Ingenuity
- Best Use of Labels
- Best Meal
- People's Choice
- Most Cans
- Best Original Design
At the close of the exhibitions all of the food used in the structures is donated to Second Harvest Food Bank.
See the structures completed by the 11 participating teams through the weekend.

County Welcomes New Park & Rec Director
AIA Member: Lee Jones Jr.
County Manager Dena R. Diorio announced that W. Lee Jones Jr. has been named as the new
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation director effective March 28, 2018. Jones, a licensed architect and member of the American Institute of Architects, currently serves as the division director for Park and Recreation's Capital Planning and Alliance Development Services. He is responsible for coordinating the planning, design and construction of the department's facilities and overseeing the development of many partnerships. Over the years, Jones worked on several notable park projects, including First Ward Park, Romare Bearden Park and the Mecklenburg County Sportsplex at Matthews.

Thank you to all the volunteers and sponsors that supported Discovery Place Takeover Day. The event was a HUGE success! Over 2000 visitors were able to learn more about architecture and design in a fun and interactive way.

AIA Charlotte Executive Director, Kate Shelton, AIAC 2018 President Shannon Rydell, AIA, AIAC 2017 President Catherine Monroe, AIA, and 2016 AIAC President John Paquin, AIA were selected to present "Three Year's Three President's" a breakout session at the conference.
AIA Charlotte member Chuck Travis, FAIA also participated in a keynote panel discussion with Mayor's from across the country to inspire members to get engaged with service to the community.
