Facility Needs Assessment Information Sessions:
On Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at 12:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. district leadership along with representatives from HTK Architects will provide informational meetings regarding the facilities needs assessment and the current recommendations. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. Sessions will be held at Mary Herbert Education Center in room 112. More information can be found at www.usd253.org

End of the Year-Transportation Requests:
When planning your end of the year field trips, please keep the following information in mind:
  • before selecting the day, have a couple of dates in mind
  • contact Erin in dispatch to see what days are available, [email protected]
  • turn in trip requests as soon as possible. The calendar is filling up
  • if possible avoid Tuesday and Thursday due to a large number of athletic events
  • trips that leave after 8:00 am on M,T,TH,F or 9:00 am on W, and return by 2:15 pm are easier to accommodate
Extra Yard for Teachers:
K-State Athletics is participating in the College Football Playoff's Extra Yard for Teachers program. This upcoming season's designated game is September 7th against Bowling Green. If you would like to represent Emporia Public Schools, please email [email protected] to express your interest.  One staff member will be randomly chosen.  The selected person will receive two complimentary tickets to the game, be recognized with all districts' representatives during the game, and have the opportunity to win $500 for a classroom project.

Maintenance Department Summer Help:
Maintenance is looking to fill some temporary summer positions for mowing, grounds care, and building maintenance. Current employees interested in applying should contact Amy Larson [email protected]. Persons who are interested but not already a USD 253 employee should go to the website to apply.

District Events
AVID 6K:
Come out and support Emporia's own AVID program. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is a college-bound system that supports first-generation college students. Please help us by registering to run or walk on May 11th. Participants will begin at 7:30 am at Emporia High School and end on the campus of ESU. Registration forms are attached below, on the school district website, and at EHS. Be sure to sign up before April 24th to receive your t-shirt. Feel free to come dressed in your favorite college attire!

Family Fiesta 5K:
William Allen White will host the Family Fiesta 5K on Thursday, May 2nd, 2019 at W.A.W.

Principal Keva Scheib meets with parents during preschool enrollment this past Tuesday. Maynard Early Childhood Center hosted parents and students who were interested in enrolling in the 3 or 4-year-old preschool program for next fall.

Board Updates
  • Zach Snethen of HTK Architects continued conversations regarding the needs assessment that have been ongoing since last summer.  Future steps include determining the final needs that will be addressed in each building and moving forward with a potential bond election. T here are several common themes that have surfaced during the process and the highest priorities of each building are being identified.  Snethen shared a broad overview of how the needs assessment process has unfolded and information that will be shared back with community stakeholders.  
     
  • Gina Riekhof of Gilmore and Bell provided an overview of the legal aspects and details of the bond issuance process. Gilmore and Bell, will represent and guide the district throughout the entirety of a bond election process. Riekhof also answered questions regarding the bond election process.
