FEATURED EVENT: HSF Innovative Education Grants Surprise Patrol
Representatives from the Hillsboro Schools Foundation (HSF) will be making the rounds to several schools this week to let staff members know their Innovative Education Grant proposals are being funded! A total of $53,500 is being awarded by the foundation to projects, programs and activities taking place next school year. HSF raises money for the grants through special events like the annual Gala & Auction and Phone-A-Thon, as well as through partnerships with local businesses and donors. One of the grants, "We Will Rock You!" - a proposal for a class set of guitars made by Liberty High School Choir director Anna Rikli - was revealed early when HSF staff and volunteers were at Liberty for a lunch in the school's Café Couture on May 10. Anna had agreed at the last minute to have her a capella choir sing for the guests after the planned performers had to cancel, so HSF staff seized the opportunity to surprise her with the news of her grant's funding. A list of all grant winners and a summary of their proposals will be posted to our website on Friday, May 25.

Bond Update: Renovation at Reedville Begins

To prepare for the siting of a new modular building at Reedville Elementary School this summer, our contractors moved two portables to other schools, and demolished three older portables that have exceeded their workable lives and cannot be salvaged. The modular building will house several classrooms as well as a new music room, kitchen and cafeteria, providing much-needed space to the school. The modular building and renovations to Reedville's main building are just some of the projects slated to take place this summer, including the installation of lighted turf fields at both Glencoe and Hilhi. These projects are made possible by the passage of our 2017 Bond.
