SUPERVISOR: 
Executive Director

STATUS: Part-time, 12 months, salaried monthly, exempt status


GOAL: To assist parents of culturally diverse or traditionally under-served populations of Kansas City to advocate for their children with disabilities and become effective participants in the planning of their children's education. This position will provide parents with culturally appropriate training, information, and resources.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to work and relate well to families of diverse cultures.
  • Knowledge of the special education process and other disability related systems.
  • Ability to enhance the collaboration of parents and school personnel, with focus on the needs and abilities of student.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently.
  • Experience in public speaking, group facilitation, and networking.
  • Ability to collect data for evaluation purposes and reporting to supervisors.
MUST ALSO DEMONSTRATE:
  • Excellent interpersonal and writing skills
  • Excellent computer and internet skills
  • Cultural sensitivity and respect of diverse populations
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally travel throughout state
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the identification of issues and concerns of culturally diverse families that have children with disabilities.
  • Provide individual assistance to culturally diverse families regarding educational and disability-related issues of preschool age children, school age children, and young adults with disabilities.
  • Work with families in the area of transition.
  • Assist or recruit interpreters of Spanish, Bosnian, or non-English languages to assist non-English-speaking families.
  • Give presentations to professionals and agencies that serve culturally diverse families.
  • Provide support to other MPACT staff on cultural diversity.
  • Comply with required documentation and record-keeping responsibilities.
  • Ensure records on children and families are current, complete, and kept confidential.
  • Recruit volunteers for Mentor Program.
  • Coordinate the dissemination of materials and representation of MPACT for resources fairs and/or community events and public awareness opportunities.
  • Serve as a liaison to SB40 Boards, Regional Centers, and LICCs, parent and professional groups, school districts, and the non-disabled community.
  • Regularly assess region needs, issues, and trends in the form of any and all of the following: surveys, meetings, workgroups, and collaborative input.
  • Participate in job performance evaluation in conjunction with training, conferences, seminars and webinars; participate in training and monthly teleconference calls.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of any state-wide MPACT conferences.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Attend all staff meetings.
  • Other job-related duties as may be assigned.
COMPENSATION
Commensurate with experience.
