Winter Athletic Update:

As you may have seen or heard, the School Board took action on Winter sports this past week. You will find some important information on our winter sports by following this link:

Parents: Please note the information regarding physical exams, as this has changed for this year. Also note that It is important to sign your kids up using our online system, even if you're not 100% sure if they will play, or even if their sport isn't starting right now. This is so we have a handle on our participation levels.

Please reach out to me if you have any questions.

Team News:

Grade 7:
We would like to recognize and commend the work our 7th grade students put into the state testing this past week. We noticed that the majority of them spent a lot of time on their responses and gave it their best effort. Nice job!

This coming week we will have NWEA testing on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Also this Monday morning is picture day for in-person students! Remote learners will have the opportunity to come in on December 2nd to get their pictures taken.

Science: Students will continue to work on their Bouncy Ball Summative in class and at home. The Bouncy Ball Summative is a performance assessment, which means that students are demonstrating what they have learned in the chemistry unit. The Bouncy Ball Summative is a lab with a written component. Students write a hypothesis, do independent research, develop a testable question, experiment, test and record their data, and then report their results. The start date of this summative was November 4th and the due date is November 24th. Students will work in class with daily mini lessons and help from me as needed. Parents are encouraged to get involved and assist with the experiment at home. All students should now have the materials for the lab. Students who are in person, received their lab materials during science class on Thursday and Friday. Students who are remote should have come to the school to pick up their materials in the front office on those days as well. This lab should be fun and I hope your child enjoys making the bounciest bouncy ball.

Math: Last week, students were introduced to the use of variables and equations within proportional relationships. They were also given a formative this week. It is in google classroom (November Formative # 1). Some students need to complete the formative. Please check with them and have them complete it before Monday, if possible. This week, we will continue working to explore variables and equations. We will begin with Unit 2, Lesson 5 and look at 2 tables that compare centimeters and millimeters.

ELA: On Monday, we will be taking the NWEA Language test, and on Thursday, we will be taking the Reading NWEA test. Make sure to get a good night's sleep and eat a good breakfast before each NWEA test. A couple things to remember for the NWEA tests: 1) Use the arrows to scroll down, in order to read the entire passage, 2) Preview questions before you read, and 3) Use the tools the test makes available to you – the highlighter, the notepad, etc. Students should make sure to bring their independent reading book with them to their testing sessions as well.
This week in ELA, we will finish the rough drafts of the realistic fiction stories and begin the revision/editing/proofreading process, to turn these rough drafts into final drafts. The Read/Write app is also a great tool to use for speech to text, and having the computer read your story back to you. We will also look at the Questioning Reading Strategy.

Social Studies: Last week, students focused on life on the home front as well as worked on interpreting propaganda posters put out by the US government during World War 2. They completed a formative on Thursday and Friday. This week we will be learning about Japanese internment camps and major battles of World War 2. Also students will be researching a topic of choice.

Grade 8:

Hello Parents! The Grade 8 teachers are so proud of the hard work that students put in this week during the NH SAS testing! This coming week, we do have a few more tests for them to take and we know they will bring the same effort and positive attitude to the NWEA tests.

Monday is Picture Day! All students will be photographed for their student ID cards and the yearbook. Grade 8 will be photographed first thing Monday morning.

A few reminders:
In person learners- be sure to bring your fully charged Chromebook each day to school
Remote learners- Advisory begins at 7:30 each morning. Please arrive on time for attendance. For NWEA tests on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday you will be reporting to Mr. Marsden after checking in with your Advisory teacher.
