National Flood Insurance Program Extended through July

On March 23rd, President Trump signed the $1.3 trillion omnibus funding package that not only avoided a federal government shut down, but also extended the National Flood Insurance Program through July 31st.

Lawmakers must work through details of the reauthorization prior to that date since Congress traditionally recesses for the month of August - the peak of the hurricane season.

BHI Warrior Weekend
April 19th - 23rd

Each year, BHI welcomes five purple heart recipients and their families to enjoy a restful, no-cost weekend in recognition of their service to our country. This year's weekend will be held on April 19th - 23rd. Funds are needed to help make preparations for the warriors, their caregivers and families.

Checks made payable to 'Halo for Freedom' can be dropped off (111 Lighthouse Wynd) or mailed (PO Box 3030, BHI, NC 28461) to BHA. Make sure to write 'BHI Weekend' in the memo. Halo for Freedom is a 501(c)(3) organization and contributions may be tax deductible.

The island residents and visitors will come together to celebrate the warriors with a community dinner at the Bald Head Island Club on Friday, April 20th. More details to follow.

Re-CYCLE BHI Update

Island residents all pitched in last Saturday to make Re-CYCLE BHI's first bicycle collection day a big success. Over 160 bikes have been loaded onto the Bald Head Island Club's truck for delivery to the Bicycle Man Project in Fayetteville and eventual refurbishment and distribution to those in need.

Re-CYCLE plans more events for the future, but reminds residents that used bicycles can be deposited in container 14, next to the small green building behind the contractor's parking lot. For more information contact Anne Rex ( [email protected]) or Gayle Sanders ( [email protected]).

Re-CYCLE, a mission project of the Village Chapel, wishes to thank all the many organizations and businesses that have contributed to this project, including the BHI Club; BHI Limited, Shipping and Receiving and Tram Services; BHI Stage I and Stage II Associations; Island Hardware; the Maritime Market; Riverside Adventure; the Village of Bald Head Island, Public Works and Contractor Facilities; and Wendy Wilmot Properties.
