Sharing Our Story - Mother Maria Pia Backes, O.P.
In the late 1870s, Bishop Joseph Alemany, the first bishop of San Francisco who was also a Dominican priest, sent a letter to the Dominican Sisters of the Holy Cross in New York asking them to send some sisters to teach the immigrant population of San Francisco. Three sisters were sent across the country, and Sr. Pia, who was the oldest and only 24 at the time, later established the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose whose primary ministry was the education of the young, the poor, and the vulnerable.
Mother Pia's feast day is on February 8th and we honor her each year with a short play about her life, performed by our 5th graders. Our Mother Pia presentation will be on February 5th at 1pm. You are invited to join us.

With out Mother Pia, there would be no St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish School as we know it today!

Mother Pia, pray for us!
ST. IGNATIUS GALA - SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 22 , 2020

We are so thankful for the Parent Board who have been busy planning and preparing for the Gala Event. It will surely be a Roaring good time! With the support of every family, this event will be a great success for our school. Be sure to check out the theme for each class silent auction basket and drop off your donation as soon as possible. Each family has agreed to purchase 4 Gala Tickets in the contract, but all are welcome to purchase more tickets for family and friends. It's a great night of dining, dancing, and FUN!
Financial Responsibilities

A friendly reminder to all families who are making tuition payments on the 5th of the month that payment will soon be due.
Thank you to all families who have been able to catch up on their tuition payments! We rely on your payments to run the school!

Thank you for making it possible to maintain our school program and keep our doors open through your tuition payments and fundraising efforts. Your tuition is a major part of our budget, and without it, the school cannot operate. Each family's part is vital, important, and appreciated!
RE-REGISTRATION
A good number of families secured their spots for next year by filling out the re-registration forms at Open House. Re-registration forms for next year will go out in February. Please be sure to return them as soon as possible so we can hold your child's spot in class and put his/her name on the roster for next year.
Registration fees cover materials, books, earthquake supplies, technology fees, classroom party fees, online subscriptions, among other important things. You may return the form, form and deposit, or form and full payment to the office. Registration fees are due by June 30th 2020 so that they do not add extra costs to your 2020-2021 tuition payments.
Please note: Your current registration fees for 2019-2020 must be paid in full before putting down a deposit for next year. Please see Ms. Maryellen if you have any questions.

Congratulations to the Garcia Family who won the Dennis Gift Certificate raffle for early registration at Open House!
Chess Mates at St. Ignatius

Our students who take chess classes on Tuesdays with Chess Mates recently participated in a tournament where they took two First Places, one Second Place, and two Fourth Places! Our five chess players earned 19 checkmates in total and came in second place over all. Well done Chess Wizards!

VIRTUS TRAINING

Parents who plan to volunteer at school during the coming school year must be Virtus trained. Virtus is the child safety training program that all adults who work and volunteer around children at church or school must complete. It focuses on appropriate interactions with children. There is no cost to you. Virtus certification must be updated every four years through a 1 1/2 hour re-certification class. You must complete Virtus 1 before doing a re-certification. The safety of our children is extremely important to all. Please be sure to attend a training if you plan on volunteering/helping out at school.

To find locations for Virtus training please click on the link below and scroll to (Archdiocese of) Los Angeles location. St. Ignatius falls under the San Fernando Region, but you may attend a Virtus class in any of the five Regions in LA County.

Please be sure to obtain a certificate and bring it to the school office so we can make a copy for our files. All Staff, Parent Board, Room Parents, and Volunteers must be Virtus trained for the safety of our students.
