CGS Weekly: November 8, 2020
THIS SUNDAY MORNING
Our in-person worship service will be at 10:30am in the sanctuary this Sunday, November 8. If you have not already signed up to attend the in-person worship service, you may do so here. Don't forget to bring your mask.

For those of you who will be worshipping virtually, the livestream will be available here at 10:30am. If you're unable to tune in live, you may access a recording of the service at the same link after the conclusion of the live service.

In an effort to limit handouts as much as possible, we will not be distributing a printed bulletin at the in-person service on Sunday. You may access the digital bulletin for this week's service here.

We will be providing special materials in packets for your kids during the service. Please bring along your favorite coloring utensils (crayons, washable markers, pencils) to use. If you're attending virtually, Kids' Notes for this week's service are available here.

As a reminder, you may give to CGS online here. (If you have questions, you may reference this online giving tutorial here.) You may also mail a check to the church (3741 Garrett Rd, Durham, NC 27707) if you prefer.

This week's Sermon Discussion Guide will be sent to community group leaders on Sunday.

There will be a Durham Rescue Mission Truck near the main entrance of CGS at this time. Please sign up here to indicate how many turkeys you would like to contribute. Contact Karen Tucker (301-503-0350) with additional questions.
Communion Service Reminders
As a reminder, we are having special Communion services for those who are not comfortable attending the in-person Sunday service or taking Communion in groups larger than 50. We have Communion services coming up on the following Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm:
  • November 11 (Northwest & Northeast Neighborhoods)
  • November 18 (Southwest & Southeast Neighborhoods)
Sign-ups are required for each of these services, and you may access sign-up links and additional details here.
Durham Rescue Mission Toy Drive
Due to the financial impact of COVID-19, even more families in Durham will need help providing Christmas presents for their children this year. CGS is partnering with the Durham Rescue Mission again this year by collecting new and unwrapped toys for children ages 0-12. Many thanks to Andrew Esther, one of our youth, for organizing this effort! You may bring your toy contributions to the church during worship each Sunday from November 15-December 6. You may also purchase toys online and have them shipped directly to the church. Please be sure to use Toy Drive c/o Church of the Good Shepherd, 3741 Garrett Rd, Durham, NC 27707 as the shipping address. If you order online, please plan to have your gifts delivered to CGS between November 16-December 6. Last year we collected nearly 400 toys for the Durham Rescue Mission, and this year we would like to collect at least 500 toys. For more info and for suggestions on toys to donate, go to www.cgstoydrive.org. Please email Andrew Esther with questions.
November Meal at the Durham Rescue Mission
On November 15, CGS is responsible for providing lunch at the Durham Rescue Mission men’s campus. We fed over 300 last month, so your continued help is greatly appreciated. If you would like to help with this month’s meal, please sign up here. Please drop off dishes in the main kitchen between 9:30-10:45am the morning of the meal. Thank you for your generous support of this ministry.

Global Outreach Spotlight
Meet: Wendy D’Auria
Wendy is a member of CGS and is working with a Christian foundation to promote spiritual and economic development by equipping local leaders in rural Tanzania. PUNCHMI English Medium Primary School is one of the main ways that the foundation is working toward accomplishing this goal in the village of Karansi. The school is a place of spiritual and academic excellence for local children of poor families.

Her main role is to help build capacity and skills in local teachers through mentoring and training. She is excited to see God use these teachers as leaders impacting the students in their community and giving them a chance to break the cycle of poverty. Currently, she is back in the US due to COVID. She continues to mentor teachers via online resources, but is anxious to return to Tanzania.

Pray: Please pray for her to keep her connections with her Tanzanian teachers strong despite only being able to meet online. Pray for the timing of her team’s return to Tanzania.

Men's Bible Study Meeting Virtually
Our Friday morning Men's Bible Study is meeting virtually via Zoom each Friday. from 7:00-8:00am. If anyone who is not currently involved with the Men's Bible Study wants more information, they can email Joseph Scanlon or Norman Acker.
