March 2018

The vernal equinox is right around the corner on March 20th, and shortly after that is Easter Sunday.

A little ecclesiastical trivia: Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the equinox, hence the different date every year. Easter can be as early as March 22th or as late at April 25th.

Not coincidentally, that same full moon determines the timing of Passover, which doesn't have to start on a Sunday. Passover typically starts at the first full moon on or after the equinox.

And, in case you're wondering, balancing an egg on it's end on the first day of spring is a myth!

We have special services planned for Holy Week, and look forward to seeing you here in our church home.

Easter Services Schedule

7:30 am - Early Service on the Plaza!
9:00 and 11:00 am - Resurrection Celebration in the Sanctuary
12:00 pm - Easter Egg Hunt on the Lawn!

Invite your friends! Easter at Haygood is ALWAYS surprising!

March 24
Haygood Youth Volunteering at Intown Food Pantry!
--All youth and youth parents are encouraged to come serve our neighbors in need! Saturday, 3/24, 10am-1:30pm! Pantry is located in McIver Hall at Druid Hills Presbyterian Church. They've asked that we use the back entrance off St. Charles Place. See you there!

Sundays
Sunday morning youth programming happens Sunday mornings, during the Sunday school hour (10am). This year we will be going through Daniel Erlander's Manna and Mercy using SEEDS (Strategic Encounters to Engage and Disciple Students)! Youth Worship will be the Informative half to SEEDS, while Sunday Night Youth will be the Transformative half. Youth Worship will be an engaging time where middle and high school students will get to interact with Erlander's 100-page paraphrase of the Bible by using Lectio Divina, an ancient Christian practice that helps us approach scripture as living word and not simply a text to be studied. We'll learn new things by looking at the Bible in a new way, think about how what we've learned makes us feel, respond by sharing, and then come up with a step-one, so we can put what we've learned together into action. Meet in Taylor's office!

Sunday Night Youth is on Sunday Nights from 6-8pm. This is the Tansformative half of SEEDS mentioned above, where we will build our faith community together, sharing good food, worship, games, and small group time!

Wednesday Night Youth!
Wednesdays from 6:15-7:15 we play games and have a mid-week check-in and time for prayer. This is an opportunity for our youth to center themselves in the middle of the week! Come, take a deep breath, talk about the what's been the best and worst parts of their week so far, and pray.

As always, if you have any questions or you're interested in serving as a Youth Volunteer (our favorite people), contact Taylor.

For information on our ministry to and with teenagers in the Midtown area, contact Taylor Kaiser.

Adult Ministries
Haygood's United Methodist Men Thursday Morning
group meets each week (on Thursday) from 7-8 am in the Grizzard House. There is always coffee, a light breakfast, fellowship (sports and news talk), faith conversation, and prayer.

The Current book selection is Romans 1-7 for You by Timothy Keller. It's available at the Grizzard House.

Haygood's Combined Adult Sunday School Class meets in Room 105 in the Gym, just beyond the coffee and doughnuts table. The door may be closed, but late arrivals are always welcome.

Gary Fedota, facilitator, is leading a series focused on Deuteronomy 6:4 - Listen Israel, God - our God - is one.

The discussion is about how God is One, and how our experience is so often about difference. How do thoughts and actions become one? What are your thoughts? What are your actions? Let us know on Sunday morning.
