Lamarr Thomas is currently the Principal of the Janis E. Dismus Middle School in Englewood, NJ, where he has been an educator for 22 + years. After serving in the United States Navy, including Operation Desert Storm, Mr. Thomas went on to receive a BSW degree from Rutgers University (Newark), a Master of Arts in Education from St. Peter’s College and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Global Urban Studies (Rutgers) with a specialization in Urban Educational Policy. Lamarr Thomas is an on a mission to serve our community by dynamically communicating compassion, excellence and moral principle in our educational community’s culture.
He has received numerous honors including the Educational Excellence Award of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (Iota Epsilon Omega Chapter) in 2013, multiple Certificates of Commendation from the Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Bergen County Executive and multiple other awards and citations for excellence in education.
As a member of the United States Navy (1987-1991), he received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, South West Asia Service Medal w/ Bronze Star, Sea Service Deployment Ribbons (2) and Good Conduct Award. The American Legion (Henry Douglas Post 58) presented him with /Desert Storm Appreciation.
