Derry Township Seeks Applications for Township Supervisor
Derry Township is seeking applications for Township Supervisor to fill the remaining term of former Supervisor Marc Moyer, who recently resigned to take a new job. Those interested in applying should send a letter and resume to Township Manager Chris Christman by February 3.  Learn more.  A new supervisor will be appointed by the board at a public meeting on February 6, 2020 at 5:30 p.m.
Township Solicitor Request for Proposals
The Township of Derry is currently accepting proposals for the position of a Township Solicitor. Proposals are due by January 31, 2020 by 3:00 p.m. Click here for additional information.

Creating an LGBTQ-Inclusive Community Featured at Next Diversity Event
The next Hershey Area All Things Diversity event will feature Todd Snovel, who will be presenting "Creating an LGBTQ-Inclusive Community in Hershey and Beyond." The free event will be held on March 11, 2020 at the Hershey Middle School, beginning with a light supper at 5:30 p.m. and the program at 6 p.m. Registration is required to attend.

This session will provide information on LGBTQ individuals and some of the unique challenges they may face in their workplaces and community settings. Participants will identify strategies to foster an environment where all LGBTQ communities can feel supported and safe. In an age of ever-evolving understanding and recognition of the rich diversities of genders and sexualities, this session will help people take steps to ensure that businesses, organizations, and community activities deliver warm and welcoming experiences to everyone.

Todd Snovel was appointed by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf as the inaugural Executive Director for the Pennsylvania Commission on LGBTQ Affairs. In this role, he advised the Governor on policies, practices, legislation, and systems that impacted LGBTQ individuals and communities.

The U.S-Iran Showdown: Heading for War?
On Wednesday, February 12, the Hershey Indivisible Team will host local freelance journalist Robert Naeye as he presents: “The U.S.-Iran Showdown: Heading for War?” at the Hershey Public Library at 701 Cocoa Ave. The talk will begin after a short business meeting that starts at 6:30 p.m.
 
Naeye will explain the long, tortured history of American-Iranian relations. He will disentangle the complex web of relationships that define the modern-day Middle East. He will debunk commonly held myths about Iranian government and society. And he will give some tentative predictions of what lies ahead.
 
Naeye is a member of the Foreign Policy Association of Harrisburg and a ravenous reader of books and articles about global affairs. He traveled with Iranians in Iran for two weeks in June 2004. He remains in regular contact with two Iranian friends, both of whom now live in the U.S. 
Princess Skate & Tea Party
The Hershey Figure Skating Club is offering a Family Friendly Valentine's Day Celebration! Join HFSC for ice skating at the Giant Center followed by dinner at The Manor Restaurant & Lounge on Friday, February 14! $50 per adult, $20 per child (age 12 & under) includes ice skating, skating lessons, skate rental, Giant Center parking, and 7:30 p.m. dinner reservations!

Hershey Rotary Invites Public to New Alternate Wednesday Night Meeting
Current and prospective members are invited to attend the Hershey Rotary Club’s new Wednesday evening meetings, starting February 5, 2020 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Cocoa Beanery at 1215 Research Boulevard, Hummelstown.

The meeting is free to attend and food and beverages are available for purchase. No advance registration is required.

Hershey Rotary Club meets every Monday at noon but in order to give members and prospective members an alternative meeting time, the Club will add this new evening meeting option. 

The Hershey Rotary Club has more than 110 members and is active around the world and in the community supporting non-profits through service and donations, helping the community’s youth through leadership programs, scholarships, monthly high school student recognition, and by sponsoring the Hershey Community Youth Alliance, a civic club bringing together Hershey High School and Milton Hershey School students.

10th Annual Ice Skating Party

7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Historic Hersheypark Arena

 
WELCOME 2020! Sharpen your blades…It’s time for the annual Skate Party!

Our guests will enjoy special opportunities offered only on this evening. Participants have a chance to meet Coco, taste some treats, and have fun with friends and neighbors. As always, guests will also have the opportunity to enjoy a self-guided tour of the “Old Barn.”

One of the long standing traditions will be the program on how the Arena ice is created and how the Zamboni is used to create an ideal ice-skating surface. Everyone will get an up-close look at the Zamboni and can have their picture taken with this iconic symbol of ice hockey.  Don’t miss out on the chance to explore this historical landmark and strap on those skates.

Be sure to purchase your tickets in advance - our price hasn’t changed since we started hosting this annual tradition and it’s a great family deal! 
• Admission price is $5 per person with advance purchase of tickets at the Historical Society or on www.hersheyhistory.org, or $7 at the door. 
• The price of tickets includes skate rentals, self-guided tours, lectures, and light refreshments. Children under five skate free. ALL GUESTS MUST PURCHASE A TICKET.
• Parking will be available at no charge. Please enter the Arena at Box Office 4.

The Federated Women’s Club of Hershey reunites with Hershey Lions Club to serve Pork and Sauerkraut!
The Federated Women’s Club of Hershey is reuniting with the Hershey Lions Club to serve its annual pork and sauerkraut community dinner. The clubs joined forces in 2019 to renew the annual tradition after a two-year hiatus. Proceeds benefit the community. Over thirty-years of pork and sauerkraut dinners have helped raise over $100,000 for scholarships for high school students.
The next dinner is planned for Sunday, March 1, 2020 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Grace United Methodist Church located at 433 E. Main Street in Hummelstown. Take-out meals will be available. Tickets will be pre-sold and are available now from members of both clubs.
