Language Excellence and Academic Preparedness Program
The Office of International Affairs is proud to announce the second year of the   Language Excellence and Academic Preparedness (LEAP) program. LEAP is a three-week pre-first semester non-credit program that will prepare first-year international students for The Ohio State University experience.

Why international students should apply to LEAP:
  • The program is basically FREE! Students have to pay the $950 fee upfront but will be reimbursed with a $950 scholarship if they successfully complete the program
  • Students will arrive early to Ohio State and have the opportunity to improve their spoken English skills and their academic preparedness
  • Students will explore campus resources, go on trips and get acclimated to life in Columbus
  • Students will be living on campus, will receive a city bus pass for transportation and will be given a generous living stipend to purchase meals, goods and services
  • Upon completion of LEAP, students will be more prepared to start their college journey at Ohio State
To learn more and apply, visit  u.osu.edu/leapThe priority deadline is June 1 - admission will occur on a rolling basis prior to June 1. The final deadline to apply is July 1 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Only 30 students will be selected.

LEAP is a co-supported program by the Office of International Affairs (OIA) and the English as a Second Language Programs (ESL Programs) at The Ohio State University.
Living in University Housing
Housing
On-campus housing will be available for freshmen.  Limited housing will be available for upperclassmen as well as transfer students. Move-in day is Saturday, August 18, 2018.

We strongly encourage students who want on-campus housing to apply as early as possible and complete a housing contract. The availability of spaces is quite limited. Most rooms for new students house more than two people. The cost of housing varies by the type of room and the meal plan chosen.

Before you sign a contract to live on campus, read the contract thoroughly and decide if you want on-campus housing. The housing contract is for the length of the academic year. If you break your contract, you will be assigned a buy-out fee for each semester that is remaining on your contract.

Note:  The deadline to cancel a housing contrac t i June 1, 2018 . After that date, if you have signed or will sign a housing contract and want to cancel your reservation for the 2018-2019 academic year, you will be assessed a charge for early contract termination.

International students are encouraged to consider on-campus options such as the Engineering Learning Community and the International House. The
International House  (I-House) program may be of particular interest to those undergraduate international students who are looking to live with both American and fellow international students. Living in the I-House gives students opportunities to share their own cultures as well as opportunities to learn about other cultures.

University Housing can be contacted at housing@osu.edu and by phone at 614-292-8266.
Temporary Housing Options
Fairfield Inn & Suites If you arrive to campus before early arrival housing is available, or if you do not plan on signing a housing contract, there are temporary options to use while you search for permanent housing.

Students with Ohio State Housing Contracts

University Housing offers temporary or "early arrival" housing only to students with signed contracts; students who pursue this option will move into their autumn room assignments. The cost for temporary housing is $35 per day. Students who need temporary housing should contact
University Housing directly. Students who arrive early will be charged until the official contract begins on move-in day, Saturday, August 18, 2018. Instructions on how to make a reservation for temporary housing and pay in advance will be emailed to students' Ohio State's email accounts as part of their housing assignment email. *Please note that there will be no early move in on August 16 and 17.

Students without Ohio State Housing Contracts

On-campus temporary housing is not available to students without contracts with University Housing. You may be able to find temporary housing at a local hotel or motel, or through some of the Ohio State's international student organizations. Please refer to
Temporary Housing for more information.
Information about reduced rates at Fairfield Inn & Suites will be forthcoming.
Off-Campus Living
Off Campus If you are interested in living off-campus, we recommend you start your search with Off-campus and Commuter Student Services. This website maintains an online housing search with information on accommodations both within walking distance and driving distance to campus.

Student Legal Services (SLS) is a team of legal professionals providing legal services to Ohio State students. Eligible students pay an annual participation fee for the SLS legal services plan. SLS's scope of services includes Landlord-Tenant disputes.

Before you sign a lease to live off-campus, you should get your lease reviewed by SLS. If legal issues arise when you're moving and living off-campus, you can meet with SLS staff to discuss your legal rights and options. Students are strongly urged to pay this annual fee in order to utilize the great services the Student Legal Services provides.

To reach
Off-campus and Commuter Student Services, call 614-292-0100 or email offcampus@osu.edu.
