The Loons of Lake Raponda
Local photographer Nicki Steel will be talking about and showing lots of photos of the loon family on Lake Raponda on Wednesday, May 8th at 7 pm at the Historical Society of Wilmington. In the summer of 2017 they successfully raised one chick. In 2018 things did not go so well. This year - who knows but they should be arriving by May 1st and she is hoping to share new photos. Come learn about these intriguing birds! Photo notecards and enlargements will be available for purchase. Admission is free although donations are accepted.
The Historical Society is located on Lisle Hill.

Did You Know?
As much as we are ready to get out in some of this warmer spring weather, we have other animal friends that are ready as well. Our bear friends are coming out of hibernation and it is important to be aware for their safety and ours.

The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is urging people to take down their bird feeders by April 1.
The warmer days and melting snows will cause bears to come out of their dens looking for food.

Vermont bear biologist Forrest Hammond says many bears went into their winter dens last fall in poorer than normal condition due to a shortage of acorns, beechnuts and apples.
So some of the bears will be hungrier than normal.
