It was another exciting year at the FEI World Cup Finals and it was wonderful to watch Beezie Madden earn sixth place. We also congratulate Zone 10 rider Eve Jobs who finished in the top 20 among the world’s best riders in her first World Cup Finals! As spring marches on, we want to remind Zone 10 members of all levels that USHJA has many programs, grants, and clinics that will help you achieve your riding goals. In addition, don’t forget that USHJA special classes and championships provide excellent individual and team experiences in the show ring for hunter, equitation, or jumper riders.

Zone 10 Spotlight: Sami Milo and her children aiming for several exciting USHJA events this year
|
|
For professional rider Sami Milo, balance and consistency are the keys to her training program at Cavallo Stables. With a background in equitation and jumpers, Sami now competes mostly in the hunters and is finding success with her talented mare Lulavani.
“This year I hope to continue earning top placings in the USHJA International Hunter Derbies,” Sami shared. “I’m qualified for the Derby Finals in Kentucky and the $500,000 Hunter Prix Final in New York so I’m hoping to make it east again this year. I’m also hoping to qualify and compete as a Developing Professional in the High Performance Hunters as part of the World Championship Hunter Rider (WCHR) Program."

Sport History: Fun facts from the USHJA Wheeler Museum

The Lindsay Maxwell Charitable Fund/USHJA Emerging Athletes Program follows a tradition of successfully mentoring young riders under the guidance of legendary riders.
In 1984, a USET developing riders training session taught by Italian Olympian Piero d’Inzeo (center) featured future national and international grand prix stars (from left) Debbi Connor, Anne Kursinski, Leslie Burr Howard, Norman Dello Joio, Joan Scharffenberger, Eric Hasbrouck, Melanie Smith Taylor, Jeffery Welles, Katherine Burdsall, Hugh Mutch, and Louis Jacobs. These training sessions were held a few times a year, with riders chosen from regional selection trials overseen by USET coach Bertalan de Némethy.
