Thru May 19 | 10:00 am - 6 pm | MCA - Museum of Contemporary Art Denver | Gen. Adm.
Vanguard tattoo artist Amanda Wachob uses a tattoo machine and ink to create art on canvas, paper, silk, fruit, and leather, in addition to human bodies. Inspired largely by modern painting, in 2008, she pioneered a unique tattoo style incorporating brushstrokes, washes, paint splatters and spills, commonly referred to as "watercolor technique." During that time, she has also been using the tattoo machines and ink to push the boundaries of her field and make works for gallery walls. Wachob not only advances tattooing as an autonomous art form but also brings the medium into closer dialogue with the wider domain of art.
Thru May 19 | 10:00 am - 6 pm | Denver Art Museum | Gen. Adm.
See how animals have captivated artists throughout history in Stampede: Animals in Art. This cross-departmental exhibition brings together more than 300 objects from the Denver Art Museum’s collection to explore the presence of animals in art throughout centuries and across cultures.
Stampede creates an opportunity for visitors to discover and consider the role animals play through themes such as personal connections with animals, how animal materials have been used in art, how animals are used to tell stories or represent political ideas, and how artists use animals in imaginative ways. It includes visitor favorites such as a four-faced Hamat's Mask, Deborah Butterfield’s horse sculptures, artworks by Frederic Remington and Georgia O’Keeffe, as well as rarely seen works.
Thru May 26 | 10:00 am - 6 pm | Museum of Contemporary Art | Gen. Adm.
Aftereffect: Georgia O'Keeffe and Contemporary Painting brings together a select group of artists whose work resonates with that of Georgia O'Keeffe. From her formal innovations, to her ambition to transcribe her ideas and emotions, to her distinctive approach to abstraction and the landscape of New Mexico, O'Keeffe's legacy is identifiable in the work of several generations of painters. These artists share her interest in capturing what Jerry Saltz refers to as the "objective and subjective all at once." That is, in their art, the physical world is neither subjected to, nor victorious over the imagination of the artist, but rather, the two are continuously at play.
Thru May 26 | 10:00 am - 6 pm | Longmont Museum | Gen. Adm.
The Ansel Adams: Early Works exhibit at the Longmont Museum focuses on the photographer’s masterful small prints taken earlier in his career, from the 1920s into the 1950s.
By capturing the abject power of nature, Adams changed our understanding of landscape photography, solidifying it as a legitimate form of modern art.
Thru Jul 14 | 10:00 am - 6 pm | Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art | Gen. Adm.
Kirkland Museum is pleased to feature a retrospective of Barbara Locketz (1927–2017), whose artworks include oil paintings, prints, paper and metal collage, metal and acrylic sculpture, jewelry and textiles. She was a student of Vance Kirkland while completing her MA at the University of Denver and later taught there from 1964 to 1971. She exhibited her work throughout Colorado and the American Southwest, New York and Mexico.
Thru Aug 16 | 10:00 am - 6 pm | CU South Denver | Gen. Adm.
In the wild world around us, everything is connected. Curious Connections in Nature delves into these connections through hands-on activities, multi-media displays and specimens from the Museum's collection.
The exhibition highlights symbiosis in our bodies, our backyards and beyond.
Discover the role of the prairie dog in Colorado's grasslands. Learn about the microbes we host in our bodies. Explore the amazing world of lichens, diatoms, and much more. The scientists who study these animals are profiled in the exhibit and you can learn about their important work.
Thru Dec 9 | 10:00 am - 6 pm | Denver Museum of Nature & Science | Gen. Adm.
Volcanoes tower 80,000 feet above a barren surface. Monstrous hurricanes rage for 400 years. And multicolored rings sit suspended in air.
In Cosmic Journey: A Solar System Adventure, you'll travel through our solar system faster than the speed of light, taking in the wonders of the planets and their moons.
Thru Dec 12 | 10:00 am - 6 pm | Denver Museum of Nature & Science | Gen. Adm.
There's a place from which nothing escapes, not even light, where time and space literally come to end. It's at this point, inside this fantastic riddle, that black holes exert their sway over the cosmos … and our imaginations.
In this Museum-produced show, zip through other-worldly wormholes, experience the creation of the Milky Way Galaxy, and witness the violent death of a star and subsequent birth of a black hole. Mathematical equations, cutting-edge science, and Einstein's theories fill in holes along the way, providing the most complete picture yet on this mysterious phenomenon. Can you feel the pull?
Thru Dec 31 | 10:00 am - 6 pm | Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center | Gen. Adm.
The art works presented in three galleries highlight some of the most celebrated work by indigenous and Latina/o artists in the FAC’s permanent collection. Within an overall chronological flow, the galleries focus on three periods of time spanning over 150 years: mid-19th Century, 1930s, and late 20th century to the present. This exhibition explores individual stylistic movements, artists, and topics such as colonial encounters, art markets, and creative innovation, among other subjects. Art works in these galleries will be periodically rotated in an effort to feature a wide range of artworks from the FAC’s extensive collection.

From the Sunset Strip’s World Famous Comedy Store to three seasons on Comedy Central, the original Roast Battle insult competition has already spawned imitators the world over. Now for the first time ever, creator-host Brian Moses, DJ Coach Tea, and a colorful cast of LA’s top contenders are hitting the road to show local comics how it’s done, while treating audiences to the most outrageous, inclusive, and equalizing comedy they’ve ever experienced.
The rules are simple: “Nothing is off-limits except for physical contact. Original material only. And at the end of every battle, we hug.” The competitive-insult sensation dubbed “Fight Club for Comedians” is a demented, dirty, and decidedly adult live show that’s grown to an international phenomenon.

The Ken Walker Sextet is a little like the full moon, except the KWS is more dependable and swings harder. The full moon arcs gracefully across the sky. It’s nice, but does it make you snap your fingers? Walker and his band evoke (but don’t demand) that response.
Ken Walker started playing upright bass when he was a student at Arkansas Tech University, where he received his bachelor of music education degree. He moved to Denver in late 1985 and in 1987 began a 12-year tenure as the house bassist at Denver’s legendary jazz club El Chapultepec that ended in 1998. Today, he plays regularly at DazzleJazz and is the Rocky Mountain region’s 1st-call jazz bassist. Walker has played with a veritable Who’s Who of jazz artists including: Eddie Harris, Hal Galper, Tom Harrell, John Abercrombie, Randy Brecker, Nat Adderley, Jimmy Witherspoon, Carl Fontana, Slide Hampton, Clark Terry, Joe Pass, Herb Ellis, Freddie Hubbard, Lew Soloff, Clifford Jordan, James Moody, Javon Jackson, Ray Bryant, Roy Hargrove, and many more. He has also performed at the Telluride, Jazz Aspen Snowmass and other festivals throughout the Western States, and he is currently on the faculty at the Lamont School of Music, where he teaches jazz bass to all jazz and commercial bass majors, coaching the Trad, Hard Bop and Latin Combos in addition to his studio.

Felix has a fantastic sense of composition and feel. Whether he’s playing keys, guitar, spitting verses, or sampling up a storm, he always manages to do something unique and incredibly musical in any situation,” says Ben. Ben, Chree, and Felix, joined by special guests, will play loose compositions that draw inspiration from artists such as Aphex Twin, J Dilla, Flying Lotus, Robert Glasper, Jojo Mayer and Nerve and everything in between. Listening, you will want to dance, or at the very least, vigorously nod your head.

The Fast and the Furriest 5K is a dog and family-friendly event organized by the students of Colorado State University’s Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program. Proceeds from the event benefit animals in need of emergency or life-saving treatments through the Companion Care Fund at CSU's Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The Companion Care Fund provides community members with financial assistance for procedures performed at the VTH that they would otherwise not be able to afford. Apr 27 I 6 am I Brighton I Marathon, Half-Marathon, 10K
The races will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 6 a.m. at the Riverdale Regional Park (formerly Adams County Regional Park) in Brighton, Colorado, less than an hour away from Denver International Airport. It will be held on a loop course of 1.31 miles around Mann-Nyholt Lake (map & preview video on the “Stuff to Know” page). This is NOT a misprint. The half marathon is 10 laps, marathon is 20, and the 50k is 24. (Yes, the ultra is a little long - less than one and a half laps of a standard running track.) If you've never done a loop race, you should try it at least once (why not here?). There are many advantages to a loop course. It is a great social environment, as you will see other runners all day. As a result, the speed-challenged runners (like me) don't have to feel all alone out there. For those of you with digestive problems (yep, that's me, too), you are never too far from restroom facilities. In fact we have 3 available on the loop for your comfort and convenience. You are also never too far from the aid station. Another advantage is, if you have family or friends that want to come out and support you, they can stay in one spot and see you multiple times. They could even run a lap or two with you. If they have small children, there is a playground close by or they can play in the grass adjacent to the course.
