Puster Elementary Principal Message
April 25, 2019
Puster Families,

I hope you are able to join us this evening for our annual Night of the Arts. The evening begins at 6:00 p.m. with a short PTA meeting, followed by a performance by our Puster Choir. There will also be some amazing 4th grade art work on display. Miss Tracy and Mr. Raschendorfer have worked hard to make it a night to remember!

As you know, our Puster Campout is TOMORROW! You should have received a separate communication with all of the details and reminders. I hear we may have a special visitor join us tomorrow...Mr. Parker will be on the scene! I can’t wait to see you all there

Pride in Puster,
Holly

LNL - Puster Campout

The Puster Campout is just around the corner! We’re getting ready for a truly memorable night! Here are a few things to keep in mind as you plan for the fun:

Registration  opens at 5:30 p.m. (4:30 p.m. for Leopard Club and Convenience Campers)

·        An optional luggage drop is available this year. It will be accessible from Hart Road via the school parking lot entrance normally gated. The luggage drop will be available through 6 p.m. To assist those with heavier items, we’ll have a few golf carts circulating between the parking areas and the campsites.

·         You may park on the street in front of the campus or in the new subdivision on the corner of Stoddard and Hart (Chamberlain Place). This year, there is no parking allowed on Hart Rd. Due to safety concerns, per the Town of Fairview, law enforcement will tow any cars parked along Hart Rd.

·        If you choose to bring your personal golf cart, we ask that you not take it around the back of the school. It needs to be parked along the street. If you would like to lock it up for the night, we have limited space to do so on a first come, first served basis.

·        Pick your campsite (first come, first served basis) and settle in! If you have trouble setting up your tent, please stop by Base Camp.

·        If you'll be arriving any later than 7 p.m., please check in at Base Camp when you arrive.

·        For assistance during the event, visit Base Camp, or look for volunteers in green and blue shirts.

·        If you haven’t already done so, sign up to receive any important communications during the campout via text by sending the message @pusterca to 81010.

Library Lowdown
Important Dates in the Library
May 10-- Last day to check out books
May 13-- Notices of all books checked out
May 17-- All library books due
Week of May 20-- BOGO Book Fair

The end of the year is rapidly approaching, and we have many big projects happening in the library. We will soon conduct a full inventory of our library collection. We will stop circulation on Friday, May 10 for students, and on the next Monday, we will send notices to families of all books on student library accounts that will be due Friday, May 17. After May 17, we will send frequent reminders about overdue books. Please help us by either returning the books or contacting us to let us know if the books are lost or damaged. Many times, when we mark a book LOST in our system, it is resolved in the last couple of weeks of school. We never want our students to have a bad experience in the library, so any news of lost or damaged books is always received with something like, "That's a bummer! Thanks for letting us know so we can update it in the computer." When our collection is up to date in the library system, we are able to help students more efficiently, and we can make informed decisions about what purchases need to be made to fill gaps.

The Scholastic Buy One Get One Free Book Fair will be here the week of May 20. Mark your calendars and make that list of chores for your kids to earn some spending money. :)

Thank you for your continuous support of our Puster Library!

Educational Game Donation
In keeping with our #PusterKind initiative, we have another opportunity to make an impact at Burks Elementary (the same McKinney Title 1 Elementary school for which we did the Angel tree at Christmas). They need educational games for their classrooms and we believe that our community can make a difference for them by supplying them with this need. Please bring in any complete games that you no longer need or new games that you feel led to purchase. There will be a collection bin in the atrium to collect all your donations. We truly appreciate your kindness.

Lovejoy Offers Group Counseling

Lovejoy is offering group counseling for students for a variety of areas. The groups will meet weekly, during school hours, and will be facilitated by Lovejoy’s Social Worker, Noelle Gove, LCSW. The overall goal of the counseling groups is to address student’s social/emotional needs that may be impacting their experience and success at school. Groups are being offered, based on need, to every campus in the district, grades K-12.

If you are interested in your student participating in a group, please  click here to complete the interest form. Noelle Gove will be in contact with parents regarding further details of the group and to obtain consent for student participation. This form is not a consent for counseling, but rather a survey of interest.

Tutoring 101
Lovejoy ISD is pleased to welcome Tutoring 101 to the  Circle of Partners. Tutoring 101 and Lovejoy ISD have formed a revenue generating/sharing partnership to bring their services to Lovejoy families. Please see below for several offerings.

Private tutoring is available for students in grades K-12 in all subjects. Tutoring 101 recommends once a week tutoring for an hour to increase grades and learn subject matter more deeply. A once a week appointment usually results in an increase of one letter grade or more. Turn those C's into B's.

What is your SAT/ACT score? Want a better one? What do you need it to be?
Invest in a PSAT/SAT/ACT Prep program not just a class. Tutoring 101 helps high scorers get top scores, average students raise their scores and poor test takers achieve the scores colleges want. Tutoring 101 students have earned admissions and scholarships, and have saved thousands of tuition dollars every year.
  • Specialize in working with individual students and their specific needs
  • Day-of-test strategies
  • One-on-one/small groups
  • PSAT/SAT Classes: Tues or Thurs or Saturdays
