This Weekend at St. Paul's
This Sunday we welcome John Schaefer, Canon Musician Emeritus from Grace and Holy Cathedral, as our guest organist. During our 10:30 service we also welcome Keith Stanfield, Concert Master of the Civic Orchestra as our guest violinist. Celebrating the 333rd birthday of J.S.Bach, and snowed-out from his original date with us in January, Keith will enhance our worship with Bach's Chaconne.

Rector's Notes:
Alleluia! Christ is risen! While the intensity of the culmination of Lent and Holy Week exploding into the joyous celebration of Easter may be past, the challenges of living the faith of Easter--a transformational faith, a living faith, a resurrected faith--remains very much with us, challenging us to reorder our lives so that the power of Easter informs every moment of everyday of our lives. Easter changes everything; let our lives reflect such transformation!
After such an intense season, I must express my appreciation to the cast of thousands who made everything work. The staff (Nicole, Janice, Cory, Jose, and Heidi) of St. Paul's is amazing and committed to making sure all the necessary work of the season is done. This year they did amazing things. Despite the inevitable chaos, they maintained smiles and wonderful dispositions throughout. It is a privilege to work with them. Beth and the Altar Guild make everything look effortless, while real effort is being offered freely and lovingly by a crowd of persons devoted to this work. The Richard Scarritt and the ushers manage all the details at worship events. The choir, choir director, and organist (Sam and Kurt) rehearse countless hours and prepare an extraordinary program of congregational and choral music for our liturgies. For Rebecca/Parish Life Committee for planning and implementing the Maundy Thursday meal which had record participation. This Lent and Easter, the wardens and vestry worked hard to greet people at the north and south doors of the church, welcoming visitors as well as greeting long-time members of the parish. The list goes on and on, the lay readers, the acolytes, the persons who helped with a variety of set-ups and tear-downs. It takes a whole parish to make a church work. And there is always room for you to be involved. Many opportunities are listed below. Please consider how you might be involved in the life of the parish.
I do want to highlight two milestones of support to our Easter Sunday worship:
Caryn Seaton and her family have prepared breakfast for musicians and choir members at 7:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday mornings for 25 years. We want our singers and musicians well nourished for the Easter marathon and the Seatons have been devoted to this ministry for years. In addition, for more years than I know, Meredith Seaton has prepared eggs and implemented our Easter Sunday Easter Egg Hunt!
For 35 years, Mary Jo Powell and her late husband, James, have provided financial support for the special brass section for Easter. The addition of the brass section to the Easter choral component of our worship makes our always extraordinary music and liturgy extra-extraordinary on Easter!
I want to publicly thank both of these families for their tradition of support and encouragement to the life and ministry of St. Paul's Parish.

considering their baptismal faith and confirmation et al
at St. Paul's and in the Christian tradition,
a "last call" set of classes will be offered
at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays,
May 5 and 12
in the Garden Room.

So what do all these categories above mean?
Membership: Any person . . . ANY person . . . may request inclusion on the parochial roles of St. Paul's Parish. All they need do is request inclusion and they will be included. This membership is a association of fellowship, activity, worship, and mutual concern.
Baptized membership: Any person who has not been baptized before, may be baptized at St. Paul's. At the next scheduled baptismal Sunday, those requesting baptism will be baptized. Baptismal membership is the primary level of membership in the Christian Church. It is a sacrament in which God claims us and offers us assurance of God's saving intent for us. Many consider it the first "ordination to ministry" shared by all called into communion with Jesus Christ and the Christian tradition.
Confirmation: All baptized persons are expected to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their baptism. If baptism is God claiming us, confirmation is a human reciprocation where we acknowledge God and the accept the obligations to follow our baptismal covenant.
Reception: Those baptized and confirmed in a tradition exercising the historic episcopate ( e.g. Roman Catholic, Lutheran, some others) are "received" by a local Episcopal bishop when they join themselves to an Episcopal congregation.
Reaffirmation: Anyone, baptized and confirmed in the Church, but, for whatever reason, feels distant from their baptism and confirmation relationship with God, may request to reaffirm their baptismal faith.
All of these are ways we acknowledge and celebrate the idea of being in relationship with God and in community with one another. If you are interested in making your connection to St. Paul's official in one of these ways,

January Snow Day Make up: We welcome again Keith Stanfield, Concert Master of the Civic Orchestra,
as our guest violinist this Sunday morning.
To celebrate the 333rd birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach, Keith will play the Chaconne for 333 days. So far he is about one third of the way through! Pray for no snow this Sunday!

Backstage Hands Needed at Pantry
Many of us have seen, and been a part of, the food distribution at our Pantry. It is humbling, hard and holy work.
But there is a very important part of our Pantry ministry that goes mostly unseen, and it's there that we can use your help.
To save money
,
where possible and practicable

ur Pantry
acquires
bulk supplies of essential items for our pantry clients. It takes time and care to divide-up these supplies for distribution. It includes things like
rice, pasta, dry beans
,
laundry
and dish
detergent, hair care supplies, frozen foods, etc. If you are able to come and help us sort these into shareable sizes, please let us know

We need more caring
hands on-deck in the
St. Paul's Parish Nursery.
Each Sunday we have two paid staff persons caring for our youngest (and cutest!) members. All are required to take the "Safeguarding God's Children" training, pass a background check, and love our kids and their families. We also occasionally need nursery caregivers during the week for special meetings, worship services, or events. Please speak with
Catie Brouse if you are ready to join the team. Service hours for high school students are available, but the training requirements remain. Thank you!

Hosting Coffee Hour is a fun and easy way to get to know other St. Paul's members! The host brings the food and the church provides the drinks. An example of what a host might bring would be: two large pans of brownies (cut very small), maybe a bowl of fruit (oftentimes grapes cut into small clusters), and a bowl or two of pretzels or popcorn. If you have questions or wish to co-host with another member, please contact Alison. Dates are available.

Two have come forward - will you be next? Join Cory, Richard and Enos to learn the ropes of St. Paul's audio & livestream technology. We have a simple systems in the church which need a few sets of trained eyes and ears to help us manage & trouble-shoot now and then. Teens, young adults, seniors - all techies are welcome to join the Tech Squad. School service hours and/or additional jewels in your crown in heaven are available. We need you. Please contact

 newest work, "Time and the River."

It is a multimedia project that was commissioned by the Lincoln Friends of Chamber Music. Images, time-lapse photography, and video from the
Platte Basin Timelapse
project
will accompany the music. The work is scored for nonet (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, violin, viola, cello, and double bass) and consists of around 35 minutes of music in 9 movements. The work will be performed by faculty members of the Glenn Korff School of Music at the University of Nebraska on April 27th at 7pm. "Time and the River" will be live streamed online ( click link on April 27 at 7 p.m.).
