DHS kicks off DHS Holiday Project Sporting Goods Drive
Starting June 1, DHS will be collecting new sports equipment – baseballs, basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, hockey sticks, helmets and pads, rackets, and outdoor games – for the Holiday Project, which provides meaningful holiday gifts to children in families receiving DHS services related to child
maltreatment and homelessness

On May 4, the East Regional Office (ERO) of the Office of Children, Youth and Families (CYF) partnered with the
Penn Hills Community Development Corporation
to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony in celebration of ERO's new location. Event speakers included Kathy Kaczka, Penn Hills CDC president; Jennifer Liptak, Allegheny County Executive Office chief of staff; Marc Cherna, DHS director; and Walter Smith, Jr., deputy director of CYF. After the speeches and ribbon cutting, local Penn Hills restaurants offered food samples to event attendees.

Kudos: AAA, OBH and OID staff
Several staff members the DHS Area Agency on Aging (AAA), Office of Behavioral Health (OBH), and Office of Intellectual Disability (OID) were commended for their hard work to relocate 37 residents from a Personal Care Home that had been providing substandard care to safe, clean and caring new homes.
The team members involved in the relocation were Kelly Burkhouse, LuAnn Castro, Megan Dandar, Dennis Govachini, William Harrison, Kalley Hilton, Robin Mieczkowski and Madeline Nagel (AAA); Emil Pyptyk (OBH); and Steve Evrard (OID).
