ADVOCATE FOR TRANSPORTATION, TECH & NURSING FUNDING IN CATHOLIC SCHOOLS
Our students are at risk for loss of hard-fought state funding! Ask NJ legislators to fight for our students!  Just months after funding for bus transportation was increased from $884 to $1,000 - the first increase in seven years - Governor Murphy's 2019 budget calls for a reduction back to $884 per pupil for non-public school students. The proposed budget also calls for cuts in nursing and technology funds.  Please go to  https://njcatholic.org/faith-in-action  and ask our legislators to make sure all students have access to essential services!

PARENTS' ASSOCIATION MEETINGS-ALL ARE WELCOME!
Next Meeting: Tuesday, June 19th at 7pm in Faculty Dining Room.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR PARENTS ON NUTRIKIDS ACCOUNTS
As the end of the school year approaches we want to advise parents that any funds remaining on Nutrikids accounts do not transfer to the next school year.  We advise all current funds on the account are used prior to the end of the school year.  Cash can be used for food service if you do not wish to add additional funds on your students Nutrikids account as we approach the end of the school year. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO TURN OFF THE AUTOMATIC REFILL ON THE ACCOUNT to avoid additional funds being added.

Senior Prom
The Senior Class Prom will be at The Merion in Cinnaminson, NJ on May 23, 2018 from 8pm to Midnight. Tickets are on sale and prom paperwork was included in packet of information at the Senior Parent Meeting. The cost is $65 per person up to April 13th and $75 per person from April 14th- May 4th.

Dress Code Guidance: the prom is a formal event and formal attire which is appropriate for a Catholic school is required. Gentlemen are to be dressed in tuxedo/suit and have dress shoes. Ladies are to dress in formal attire. Avoid excess- excessively high slits, plunging necklines and/or fabric cut outs.

Water Bottles
As the weather gets warmer we want to reiterate the water bottle policy in the Student Handbook.

Students may carry approved CCHS water bottles sold in the Blarney Store for $5. This clear plastic water bottle is the only approved bottle and is for water only. Juice, soda, fruit infused water, etc. are not permitted. Students should write their name on the bottle with a marker for identification. Non-authorized bottles and beverages will be confiscated and students will be subject to disciplinary action.

Project Graduation Fundraiser
The Project Graduation committee of the Parent Association is selling Class of 2018 yard signs for $15. Mrs. Merenyi has them available for sale in Rm 109.

KHAN ACADEMY-
FREE ONLINE RESOURCE FOR STUDENTS
Salman Khan was living in in Boston and tutoring his cousins in New Orleans. In an all-too frequent story, these children had gaps in their learning that made them believe that they could not do math. Khan set out to fill in those gaps. Along the way, he developed videos and posted them to YouTube. It turned out that his cousins like the videos better than the live Salman Khan. The reason was obvious. The cousins could pause the video, but not the live Salman Khan. Khan Academy was born from that experience and now has over 2000 videos that reach over a million students each month. These videos are now linked to practice problems that allow students to practice a skill until they truly understand it. Khan's premise this that students should keep practicing a topic until they master it.

Recently, the College Board has collaborated with Khan Academy to provide free, online SAT and AP test prep. The College Board reports that last year, 16,000 students saw gains of 200 points on their SATs when they dedicated 20 hours to this online prep. Students can click on the College Board's website to customize their online tutorial. However, these resources are not just for SAT and AP prep. Students can use these resources to review even basic concepts. We at Camden Catholic want our students to tap into this powerful resource. The Guidance Department and Office of Academic Affairs will encourage students to use this resource. Salman Khan encourages families to watch the same video, and talk about it. Together, we can all benefit from this resource.
