One evening we received a phone call about a kitten who accidentally had his back toes caught by a rolling office chair, and now his back toes were bleeding. Just barely 5 weeks old and weighing only one pound, Squirt was a little ball of orange fluff with a big personality. Squirt quickly proved he was a brave little kitten.
Dr. Frye quickly assessed that Squirt had a degloving injury to one of his rear toes. A degloving injury is also called an avulsion which is a type of severe injury that happens when the top layers of the skin and tissue are ripped from the underlying muscle, connective tissue, or bone. This type of injury can be due to shear force on the skin.

We get a lot of questions from cat parents asking whether certain aspects of cat anatomy are normal or not. Here are some cool facts about cats' bodies!
Why does my cat have crossed eyes?
Siamese cats and Siamese mixes are the cats who most commonly have crossed eyes. The crossed eyes of the Siamese cat developed naturally to compensate for a genetic flaw in their eye structure. Although the cat's eyes are not permanently crossed, traditional Siamese cats must cross them to see straight.
Cats' eyes point forward, like human eyes. Each eye has one spot that sees the same thing as the other eye. Nerves communicate the image to the brain, which puts the two together as one clear image.

This free help session will be especially helpful for anyone who has a kitten or is thinking about adding a kitten to the family. You will learn what is age appropriate kitten behavior, how to establish good habits and how to prevent problems from developing. You will learn the importance of and how to provide a less stressful environment as well as how to provide enriching activities for your kitten and cat. You will learn the basic needs of a kitten, learn how to read body language, how to properly socialize your kitten along with how to properly introduce a new kitten to the established two and four-legged members of your family.

Four Seasons Pet Loss Grief Support
Losing a pet friend and companion can be heartbreaking. Whether it is a sudden or planned goodbye, it is an emotional time. We understand the strength and specialness of the animal-human bond. On the first Tuesday of each month, Four Seasons Compassion for Life will be hosting a Pet Loss Grief Support Group from 5:30-6:30 pm. The monthly meeting will be held at a new location: 373 Biltmore Ave, near Mission Hospital. This group is for anyone who is grieving the loss of an animal companion and needs further support. This is a free monthly meeting. Everyone welcome but out of respect to other participants, please leave pets at home.

This pioneering, unique, and much needed, conference covers many topics on senior pet care needs, end-of-life care, caregiver support, and grief healing. The Angel Pets Conference highlights important medical topics for senior animal needs and resources, assessing animal quality-of-life, explaining animal hospice and palliative care, covering the medical, practical, emotional considerations for pets at the end-of-life transition. Special focus will also be on grief healing from pet loss for ourselves and family, which is often complex and under-addressed in our society. Perfect for pet parents or pet professionals.
