BOOKMARKED
This is a new section to share interesting articles and reports that we at Leaders in Energy are reading. If you have worked on a project that is published or have recommendations on content that is relevant to the community please share with kylesaukas@gmail.com.

We felt this piece by the Washington Post Magazine consisting of 24 "cover pages" focused on climate change was an innovative way to address an issue that can often be overwhelming.

A new report from the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago finds that the popular policy of renewable portfolio standards may not be the most cost-effective pro-climate policy and raises retail electricity prices. The findings raised much opposition on #energy twitter and the renewable industries advocates.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority introduced its first Energy Action Plan to reduce energy, emissions and long-term operating costs. You can read the full plan here.

We were alerted to a white paper by one of our LE members titled "Deep Adaptation: A Map for Navigating Climate Tragedy." It was published in July of last year.

It was also mentioned in a Google talk given by Terry Patten. The paper is written by Dr. Jem Bendell, Professor of Sustainability Leadership and Founder of the Institute for Leadership and Sustainability (IFLAS) at the University of Cumbria (UK).

You may find it worthwhile to set aside some time to read through it, even if you don't want to or don't believe in or like his conclusions. Bendall has a Deep Adaptation Forum for those who are further interested.
From the Field
( Shown l-r): Linda Mansdorf (LE Volunteer Coordinator), Shelli Bond (UMD Student Volunteer), Christopher Peoples (LE Volunteer and Managing Partner, Peoples Partners and Associates, LLC); Catherine O'Brien Stephens (Senior Faculty Specialist and Research Coordinator, Maryland Energy Innovation Center); Katherine Magruder (Executive Director, Maryland Clean Energy Center); and Janine Finnell (Executive Director, LE).
Leaders in Energy attended the recent University of Maryland (UMD) College Park Engineering Sustainability Day to share our mission of building a community focused on sustainability for the sake of tomorrow, today.

We had volunteers exhibit at a table to recruit new members and reach out to potential new partners. A great write up of the event can be found here courtesy of Advanced Biofuels USA.

We also wanted to let you know about a new report from UMD's Center for Global Sustainability titled "Workshop Report: Accelerating Climate-Mitigating Technology Development and Deployment." UMD brought together leading academic researchers, modelers, investors, and policymakers to examine how to combine technical and policy perspectives of clean energy innovation to accelerate climate change mitigation.
