SJPDS Newsletter May 10, 2018
It is with great and deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Ms. Pontier, beloved Transitional Kindergarten teacher. Ms. Pontier was a cherished colleague, friend, and teacher, who touched many lives during her 15 years at St. John’s. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. The outpouring of love as people remember Ms. Pontier and the joy she brought to our community for so many years here is a testament to her enduring spirit. In continued celebration of her life, arrangements have been made which we wanted to share for those who would like to attend.

Visitation is Friday, May 11th, from 3:00 PM-5:00 PM; 7:00-9:00 PM at
4112 Old Columbia Pike
Ellicott City, MD 21043

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 12th, at 11:00 AM at
First Evangelical Lutheran Church
3604 N Chatham Rd
Ellicott City, MD 21042

In lieu of flowers, Ms. Pontier's family has requested donations to be made to the American Cancer Society. In addition, we will also be establishing the Angie Pontier Memorial Transitional Kindergarten Scholarship Fund. To contribute to the Scholarship Fund you can drop off checks at the Main Office or mail to the school's address. Contribution checks should be made out to SJPDS with "Angie’s Scholarship" in the memo line.

Ms. Pontier meant so much to so many. Here are some of the heartfelt messages her students sent her last week:
How Will You Make a Change?
" The development of confident, independent thinkers, people of character, and respectful citizens connected to our local and global communities," is one of our Five Gifts at St. John's. We asked our Fifth Graders how they will make a positive change in the world, and each week leading up to graduation we will feature some of their answers.

" I will give money to homeless people ." –Maddy

"C lean up all the trash on the streets ." Jason

STEAM With Mrs. Grosso
The 3’s classes also took a little STEAM time today to learn about symmetry with Mrs. Grosso. They learned that lots of things in nature are symmetrical, even ourselves, and then made ladybug flyers by folding on the dotted lines and making sure to add the same number of spots to each wing.
