Director's Notes
Holiday Closing:  The Tiverton Public Library will be closed on Monday, February 18th for Presidents' Day, and will reopen at the regular time on Tuesday the 19th.
ADULT EVENTS
*POSTPONED* All About Roger Williams: A Presentation by John McNiff.
New date: TBD (Originally scheduled for Wednesday, January 30th)  
This event has been postponed as our speaker is unavailable due to the government shutdown. We will be rescheduling this event for a later date after the shutdown ends. Stay tuned! We still encourage you to visit the library to see the 7ft Roger Williams statue with information panels on loan from the State Archives until February 18th.

Retro Game Club: Peripheral Party!
Tuesday, February 5th, 6pm,
Community Room
It's party time at Retro Game Club in February! Join our tech team, Patrick & Kyle, for an evening of multiplayer party games that use a variety of persnickety peripherals and gimmicky gadgets. We'll have a slew of party games and multiplayer-focused add-ons from decades passed, including:
  • Microsoft Kinect!
  • Playstation Move!
  • Wii Remotes!
  • Rock Band!
  • NES Zapper!
Plus, we'll have the ultimate gaming peripheral on-hand: an HTC Vive Virtual Reality headset! Registration is recommended, so please visit www.tivertonlibrary.org to sign-up. Party on!

AARP Tax Prep, Community Room
Begins Wednesday, February 6th through Thursday, April 11th
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free, individualized tax preparation for low-to moderate-income taxpayers - especially those 50 and older - at nearly 5,000 locations nationwide.  For a list of documents to bring with you, click here.

Adult Knitting Meet Up
A casual meeting for knitters looking to work on their projects with others who enjoy knitting and crocheting. Join us on the Third Tuesday of the month to meet and socialize with local knitters.

Virtual Reality comes to the Tiverton Library in February!
 
If you are interested in VR, or just curious about how it feels to experience digital reality, we'll have everything you need to get started.
The library will host four VR events throughout February, where visitors can book a VR experience and choose from dozens of immersive videos, apps, and games. Register for the event to hold your spot and reserve a session with the HTC Vive before it leaves the library!
While you wait, "walk the plank" on PlayStation VR or test-out a Google Cardboard to transform your phone into a VR headset -- visit bit.ly/LibraryVR for a list of apps to download before you arrive!
Please note: use of VR is restricted to patrons over the age of 12 and registration is required. Patrons under the age of 18 must have a guardian present to participate.

- Teen Advisory Board 
FIRST TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH 
Tuesday, February 5th 6-7pm in the Teen Room 
Come hang out and discuss titles that you are reading, what you would like to see happen at the library, and eat some snacks!  Earn a community service hour for attending! Attendance is limited to patrons in Grades 6 through 12. 
 
- Retro Game Club 
FIRST TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH   
Tuesday, February 5th 6-7:30pm, Community Room 
Do you love gaming? Want to play and learn about the groundbreaking games that started it all? Then this is an event for you! Join our Technology Librarian, Patrick, for a look into the past generations of video games. We'll have original Sega and Nintendo hardware from the 80s & 90s, as well as some newer editions to play. There will be several stations set up in a round-robin style, allowing you to hop from one activity to the next and try your hand at variety of classic games. Attendance is open to all. 
 
- Young Adult for Adults Book Club
 
SECOND TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH 
Tuesday, February 12th 6-7:30pm, Learning Center 
Interested in a traditional book club?  Want to talk about books?  This is a traditional book club that meets on the second Tuesday evening of each month (due to scheduling, meeting date may occasionally be the third Tuesday of the month).  It is a book group that is intended for "older" teens and adults.  This month's book selection is Weetzie Bat by Francesca Lia Block.  Copies are available for check out at the library.  Teens must be at least in high school to attend this book group. Bring whatever you're reading (have read) and discuss it (even better if you didn't like it!) with other readers. Snacks provided!  Participation is limited to patrons in Grades 6 through 12. 
 
- Palentine's Day Youth Services Celebration of Friendship
 
Friday, February 15th starting at Noon in the Community Room 
Join us for a Youth Services Celebration of Friendship! There will be a showing of The Sandlot projected on the big screen in our Community Room.
 
 
- Anime & Manga Group 
Friday, February 22nd 3:30-4:30pm in the Teen Room 
Monthly Anime & Manga meet up is starting up again!  Join other interested teens in lively discussion, anime viewing, craft making, and snack eating!  Also, help us with our long-term goal of planning a cosplay event! Attendance is limited to patrons in Grades 6 through 12.
 
- Action Packed Movies at the Library
Saturday, February 23rd starting at Noon in the Community Room 
Bring your lunch and join us for a dine-in showing of Love, Simon projected on the big screen in our Community Room.  Free popcorn and candy provided!  Our Teen Movie showings are part of our Teen Program offerings but are open to all.

Yeti, Set, Go to the Tiverton Public Library during winter break for a variety of snow-themed activities.In addition to the special events listed below we will also have snow games, crafts and projects available in the children's activity room.

Storytime Adventures
Who:  Children ages 3-5 years
When:  Mondays -February 4th, 11th and 25th  (No storytime February 18th)
Storytime is cancelled in the event that Tiverton Public Schools are closed.
Two Sessions:  10:15 - 11 a.m.
                         11:15 - 12 p.m.                      
Where:  Children's Activity Room
What:  Join Mr. Monkey and Miss Meg for a storytime adventure. Each week we will explore a fun and interesting topic as we share stories, sing songs, play games and create a piece of art.
Limit:  18 preschoolers per session. Registration is not required. Seats will be distributed on a first-come basis.
 
Teeny Tiny Tales
Who:  Children ages 1 -2 years
When:  Wednesdays - February 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th
Storytime is cancelled in the event that Tiverton Public Schools are closed.
Two Sessions:  10:15 - 11 a.m.
                         11:15 - 12 p.m.
Where:  Children's Activity Room
What:  Join Mr. Monkey and Miss Meg for stories and songs during this literacy-based playgroup for young patrons. The morning will begin with a short book and group activity, followed by time to play with our new friends.
Limit:  18 toddlers per session. Registration is not required. Seats will be distributed on a first-come basis.
 
Babies & Books:
Who:  1 week - 12 months
When:  Thursdays - February 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th
Storytime is cancelled in the event that Tiverton Public Schools are closed.
Time:  10 - 10:30 a.m.
Where:  Little Readers Book Nook in the Children's Room
What:  Join Little Library Bunny and Miss Meg for nursery rhymes, songs, finger plays and stories while introducing your baby to the wonders of language.
Stories and activities have been chosen for non-walking infants.
