What the Cup of Compassion Means to Me

President & CEO

On February 22nd, the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay hosted its 15th Cup of Compassion. As you all know, this annual event is our only true fundraiser of the year. This one hour breakfast is our way to tell our compelling story, to really make our mission come alive, and to generate the necessary funds so that no one in our community has to face crisis alone!
Going into my third Cup of Compassion, I was so excited! There is a transformative energy generated during this event that is hard to describe. I think much of that energy comes from the over 400 dedicated people who make their way downtown before 7:15 a.m. to attend the breakfast. It comes from our fabulous Master of Ceremonies, Brendan McLaughlin, who can energize a crowd like no one else. This year, I really believe the essential energetic force came from the passionate testimonials of Celia, Emily, and Tim who found their help, hope and healing at the Crisis Center....

Cup of Compassion 2018: Celia's Story
|
|
|
Celia in Peru |
Celia had served faithfully as a missionary in Peru, teaching kids English in a school. She enjoyed her work and felt she was helping to develop future leaders in the country.
Everything changed when one day the headmaster of the school touched Celia inappropriately.
Celia felt betrayed, confused, and angry. She took time to process what had happened and realized she no longer felt the joy of mission; instead she had a sense of fear. She knew it was time to return to the United States. She submitted her resignation, and let the headmaster know that she wanted to get her final paperwork done.
One evening, just before her departure, the headmaster came to her home and said he wanted to take care of the paperwork. Relieved to be taking the final steps, Celia let him in....READ MORE

Crisis Center to Launch Innovative Paramedicine Pilot Program
|
|
|
Community Paramedicine: Coming to Tampa in 2018! |
Thanks to a $285,000 grant from the Florida Blue Foundation, the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay will be launching a community paramedicine service in 2018. This pilot program will help patients who are frequent users of local EMS and hospital emergency room services by connecting them to medical and mental health resources.
TransCare will have two community care coordinators on staff who are paramedics dedicated to patients after they are discharged from the emergency room due to both a physical and behavioral health need.
The community care coordinators will follow up with patients to help identify why they frequently use emergency services and develop a plan to address their medical needs as well as social and behavioral health concerns in a non-emergency setting. This holistic approach to care will ensure patients are connected with the appropriate resources and will lead to fewer emergency calls and visits.
Many thanks to the Florida Blue Foundation for their support of this new program!
