More than 185 Attend  Spring Conference to Network, Learn
About 188 people attended the MAFP Spring Conference in Jackson in April, with a breakdown of 53 physicians, 89 residents and students, 19 family members, 36 exhibitors, 5 staff and 15 speakers. The physician attendance represents a 15% increase over 2017 attendance, and a 33% resident and student increase over 2017. Many thanks to Aledade for sponsoring the Saturday luncheon, and Blue Cross Blue Shield for sponsoring the Saturday crawfish boil.

Nominations Now Open for Awards
Nominations are now being accepted for MAFP Family Physician of the Year, Military Service Award and New Physician of the Year awards. Before the June 1 deadline, please return any nominations so MAFP may contact the nominee and ask for information. More information about awards, including criteria and lists of past winners, can be found here.
MAFP Membership Directory Released
This week, MAFP will release its electronic member directory in PDF format, which is in response to member demand and a call to "go green" by using less paper. Members need to know the password in order to access the protected file. BE LOOKING FOR A MEMBERS-ONLY EMAIL WITH INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO ACCESS THE DIGITAL DIRECTORY. New Logo Shirts, Rain Jackets 
Now Available for Order

At Spring Conference, MAFP introduced two new logo items for purchase and members responded enthusiastically!

A unisex rain jacket is available in blue and gray for $45, and a mens' and ladies' quarter-zip shirt is available in navy heather and charcoal heather for $35. The logo is featured on the left chest of both items.

Logo golf shirts are available for $45 each in mens' and ladies' styles in green, blue and black.  Photos of the items and ordering information is available here .
Nominate or Run for Available 
Board of Directors Positions
Now's your chance to serve on the MAFP Board of Directors.  Board members are expected to attend meetings, and to take part in the decision-making process. Please contact MAFP Executive Director Beth Embry    or Nominating Committee Chair Dr. Sue Simmons  if you are interested.  The following positions on the board will be filled by the Nominating Committee this year:
  • Secretary, 1-Year Term
  • Delegate to AAFP, 2-Year term
  • Alternate Delegate to AAFP, 2-Year Term
  • District 2 Director, 2-Year Term (Covington, Forrest, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Lamar, Marion, Perry, Wayne counties)
  • District 4 Director (Hinds County)
  • District 6 Director (Attala, Bolivar, Carroll, Claiborne, Coahoma, Grenada, Humphreys, Holmes, Issaquena, Leflore, Montgomery, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tunica, Warren, Washington, Yazoo counties)
  • District 8 Director (Alcorn, Itawamba, Lee, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Tippah, Tishomingo counties)
  • Member at Large (any county)

Medicaid Medical Supplies Change
To Take Effect September 1
Only medical supplies and equipment and appliances ordered by a PHYSICIAN are covered and reimbursed under the Medicaid program as of September 1, 2018, according to a release put out by the Mississippi Division of Medicaid. 

Durable Medical Equipment (DME) providers are required to specify the ordering physician's National Provider Identifier on any claim for payment to maintain compliance. For more information regarding ordering requirements contact OMS at (601) 359-6150.
