Students Become Masters at Jedi Academy
"May the Fourth be with you!" Last Friday, May 4, our Fairmont Anaheim Hills students participated in a Fairmont Parent Association-sponsored fundraiser: "May the Fourth be with you" Jedi Training Academy. It was a blast! The students completed six training stations to achieve the different Jedi ranks until they reached the ultimate goal of Jedi Master. They dodged lasers, hyper-sprinted to asteroids, traveled through hyperspace, trained with blasters, landed on various planets, destroyed the Death Star, and ---   most importantly ---   they used their Jedi training to go forth in a lightsaber battle with Darth Vader and Kylo Ren!

Finally, Yoda and Princess Leia crowned the new brave Jedi Masters with medals. It was an out-of-this-world adventure for all Jedi apprentices from preschool through junior high! We were so fortunate that many parents came out to support their little Jedis and help with the event. Their support was greatly appreciated, and all who were there had a great time.

All Jedi Academy proceeds will go directly to fulfilling a portion of Fairmont's "wish list" that was put together by our staff and administration for the betterment of our campus and academic programs. The teachers, staff, and administration want to thank the FPA and ALL of the parents who volunteered with the BIGGEST thanks possible. It was an amazing event and such a blast to see our children having such a great time! The hours of work before this event started were so evident and appreciated.

Kindergarten Field Trip
Kindergarten students visited the Marine Mammal Center this week and learned all about sea lion rescues, care, and their re-entry to the ocean. Afterward, the kindergarten parents met all of the kiddos down at the beach for a picnic lunch. It was truly a highlight for all of our students and great way to end the year.

4th Grade Street Hockey Tournament
The 11th annual Anaheim Ducks Grade 4 Street Hockey Tournament was on April 27, and all our 4th graders had a blast! Our boys and girls played very well, advancing to the playoffs. Everyone had a lot of fun! Ayden R.'s mother was kind enough to put together this four-and-a-half-minute video. Enjoy!

5th Grade Helping Verb Raps
Fifth-grade students made "raps" with their helping verbs. It was super cute and a great way to learn! Check them out!

3rd Grade Music Class
During third trimester, students in 3rd grade have been learning to sing, play, and dance to American folk songs. Amongst the broad range of repertoire includes the famous song "Pawpaw Patch." The pawpaw fruit was unknown to many of the students, who discovered that it is the largest edible fruit indigenous to North America. Learning about indigenous fruit has never been so much fun as students enact picking up pawpaws during the dancing portion of the lesson. Enjoy watching third grade perform the dance during their music class and share a couple of photos!

Book Lovers Workshops
Do you love reading? Be sure to check out our new summer classes offered at Fairmont Anaheim Hills for all of our insatiable readers. Mrs. Harmon (AHC) and Ms. Harmon (HAC) will lead both workshops.

Book Lovers Workshop Session 1
Grades 3 ---     5
July 16 ---   19 at Fairmont Anaheim Hills
Monday ---   Thursday from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm
$200 (minimum of 10 students)
Book Lovers Workshop Session 2
Grades 3 ---     5
July 23 ---     26 at Fairmont Anaheim Hills
Monday ---   Thursday from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm
$200 (minimum of 10 students)

At each workshop, students will share their love of books and reading with each other through both independent reading and literary-based games and activities. In addition to reading, they will hone their creative writing skills by composing book reviews and recommendations in a variety of fun and interesting ways, including crafting alternate endings to their favorite stories and writing postcards from characters' points of view.

Students will be part of a fun and safe online community in which they can explore new books and share their favorites with friends. Additionally, they will step outside of their books with fun activities that might include exploring a book-tasting menu, going on an Amazing Literacy Race, solving a crime scene mystery, or using their critical-thinking skills to free themselves from an Escape Room. Activities will differ in each session, so students who want to double their fun can enroll in both sessions.

Writer's Workshops
Writers and non-writers unite! Have you ever thought about a cool story and couldn't figure out how to put it together on paper? Have you ever experienced something and couldn't quite describe it well? Here's your opportunity to hone those abilities! Students in our writing workshops will engage in a two-week process to conceptualize, plan, draft, publish, and illustrate completed works of literary art. We will dive into different stories, learning about the writing styles of various authors and scavenging the treasure troves of word choice to expand our schema of words. Critical thinking, problem solving, perspective shifts, and research skills are only a handful of the concepts that we will learn and intertwine throughout these two weeks.

Health 2 Students Learn from Strength and Conditioning Trainers

Battle ropes, spin class, cardio box ---   oh, it's our fourth-period Health 2 course. Health 2 is a new course on campus composed of science-based workouts, in-class discussions, and student-led projects. Participants learn about human anatomy, musculature, and how to live healthy lifestyles.

As part of this course, students had the opportunity to train with two trainers from PIII Strength and Conditioning. Andre Ponce and Diego Ponce visited Fairmont Prep on Wednesday, May 9, for a 45-minute training demo and then a Q&A session. The students did an amazing job working out through the training demo and were excited to ask questions about the industry.

Andre and Diego currently train two Fairmont students at their gym and love to work with teenagers and adults. Learn more about PIII Strength and Conditioning on its Facebook page.
