SBE voted on the following business items:
The Board approved of a resolution in commemoration of board member Mona Bailey's service.
The Board adopted a name change from the Washington Achievement Index to the Washington School Improvement Framework.
Presentations and discussions:
Overview and Discussion of Strategic Planning Process - The Board heard from staff regarding a suggested timeline and process for developing a new strategic plan. Additionally, the Board heard from representatives of key partner organizations (part one): EOGOAC, WSAC, and WTECB to inform their planning process.
NGSS Communication Plan - The Board heard from staff and a representative of Ready Washington regarding a recommendation for a NGSS communication plan as well as an update on the work of partners around NGSS communication.
2018 Legislative Update - The Board heard an update from staff on the status of bills aligning with SBE's legislative priorities and other relevant legislation.
Executive Director Update - The Board heard updates from staff regarding BEA waivers, a temporary waiver of 24-credit graduation requirements from a school district, an update on the statewide indicators of educational system health, update on rule amendments for school improvement goals, and an update on OSPI/SBE roles and responsibilities.
