Summer Hours Starting June 1
City offices will implement summer hours starting on June 1, 2018- August 31, 2018. City offices will close at 3:00 p.m on Fridays. 
63rd Street Sidewalk Construction
The Contractor will continue pouring driveways and  the sidewalk the week of May 14th on 63rd Street, between Colby Avenue and 1400 63rd Street.  Those residents will need to have any vehicles removed prior to 8 a.m.  Those affected residents have been notified, please see those notices for more information.  They will continue restoration in those areas that the sidewalk is now in place.

Residents will need to remove all vehicles out of their driveways and garages, when work starts on their segment. They will be working one segment/block at a time. They anticipate it will take approximately 1-2 weeks per block/segment . 

Notices will be given prior to driveway removal for those residents. Residents on 63rd Street will have received a construction newsletter on the project. Lane closures on 63 rd Street will occur during the  construction of the sidewalk. You can expect lane closures during the times of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on 63 rd Street .

Sanitary Sewer Repair- Marilyn Dr
City staff became aware of an exposed sanitary sewer along Walnut Creek that was at risk of collapsing and spilling raw sewage into Walnut Creek. Staff has worked with the Urbandale - Windsor Heights Sanitary District to on the emergency repair.  The repair on Marilyn Dr is close to being completed. 

Street Rehabilitation Project- HMA Overlay
Northwest Drive and 64 th Street - between 69 th Street and Lincoln Avenue updated schedule:
  •          Thursday, May 10th - Friday, May 11th - Beginning at 8 a.m. the contractor will be completing roadway patching and curb work.  Traffic will be maintained during this time.  You will be able to get in and out of your driveways
  •          Monday, May 14th  -  Beginning at 8 a.m. the street will get a new asphalt overlay.  The street will be closed to traffic.  Access to your driveway will not be allowed during paving operations.  Please leave your home by 7:30 a.m. or make other parking arrangements.  The street will be opened at the end of the day.  A tack coat will be placed prior to asphalt courses.  Tack is very sticky and slick substance.  DO NOT drive through the tack coat as it will stick to your car.
If it rains on the day scheduled for the asphalt overlay, the contractor will place the overlay on the next business day.  Once the milling of the street begins, please do not park cars on the street until after the overlay has been placed.  The contractor will be sweeping and cleaning the street between the milling and the asphalt placement.

Save the Date! Windsor Heights Police Dept. Annual Blood Drive- May 16th 
Signup to Save Lives and get a FREE 1 Day Pass to any Greater Des Moines YMCA.  The community blood supply is critically low. There's no substitute for human blood and it can't be created in a lab. The only way our local hospital partners get blood to their patients is when generous LifeServers take an hour to roll up your sleeve and give a lifesaving gift!  Please take an hour to make sure local hospital patients get the blood they need to survive!

Spring Curb Side Clean-up- May 17th 
If the spring has sprung from your old sofa, you're in luck because Spring Clean-Up is just around the corner!
Spring Clean-Up is an opportunity to get rid of unwanted trash that won't fit in your garbage cart or may require a large item sticker. Examples include a couch, desk, lamp or chair. When you're considering setting an item out for Spring Clean-Up, ask yourself:

Can two people lift it?
Is my pile smaller than the bed of a pick-up truck?
If the answers to these two questions are yes, then kick those items to the curb by 6:00 am on your scheduled day. Following the guidelines will help maintain consistent garbage rates, keep everyone safe and support continuation into the future.

So, what are the guidelines? Besides the two items already mentioned, here's what NOT to place at your curb for Spring Clean-Up:
Appliances, TVs, Computers
Purchase large item sticker, follow
directions on the sticker.
Tires
 
Hazardous Waste
Bring to Metro Hazardous Waste
Drop-Off,
Located at: 1105 Prairie Drive SE,

Sign up for Windsor Heights Summer Camp
Windsor Heights is bringing Summer Camp to Colby Park. The week will be packed with a variety of games including; Minute to Win-it and Survivor challenges, relay races and obstacle courses, water balloons launches and scavenger hunts! Summer camp is designed for 6-12 year olds and will consistently encourage teamwork, sportsmanship and most importantly FUN! Windsor Heights Foundation- Night in the Heights
The Windsor Heights Foundation has a long history of bringing many people together at Colby Park to enjoy a Tuesday night summer concert.   The Windsor Heights Foundation is a private, community foundation that invests your generous contributions in projects and activities that enhance the quality of life in Windsor Heights. The volunteer leadership of the Windsor Heights Foundation is dedicated to ensuring these investments provide the most impact. We are testing new ideas for the Tuesday night summer concert series to create an even more festive atmosphere for even more members of our community.  

This year, Nights in the Heights will expand the free Tuesday night concerts to 90 minutes, offer additional food trucks, beverage options and adding local high school band performances beginning at 6:00 p.m. so you can picnic prior to the featured concert at 7:00 p.m. Please note special times for the July 3 rd holiday featured event.

The bands booked for Nights in the Heights concerts represent a mix of rock, country, pop, grass roots, and Latin. Mark your calendars today for these great concerts:

June 26 - Freestyle
July 3 - Abby Normal 6:00 - 9:30 p.m. followed by City of  Windsor Heights-sponsored Fireworks

Keep Windsor Heights Beautiful Garden Tour- June 9
Mark your calendar for the Windsor Heights Garden Tour on  Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., held rain or shine. The garden tour is sponsored by Keep Windsor Heights Beautiful. Come experience some lovely gardens by Windsor Heights  gardeners who have a rich understanding that we can make a difference in our neighborhoods, and in our lives.  Come see for yourself!  There is no charge for the Garden Tour. Instead, visitors are encouraged to consider a free will donation. Money raised helps buy plants and other items for the two garden beds that are maintained by the commitee along the circle drive at Colby Park.
