LATE SUMMER HAPPENINGS AT OLD FRIENDS
There's so much going on at Old Friends! As summer has begun heading into fall, we are still in the throes of the COVID-19 crisis. But thanks to our loyal supporters and friends we are getting through these tough times. We're happy to report the horses are doing well, and we've done all we can to keep our staff and volunteers safe. But despite protocols and restrictions, there are still many ways to continue to celebrate Old Friends and support our retirees. Here's what's happening now.
TAKE A SPECIAL TOUR, AUG. 31 - SEPT. 6
As many of you know, we have been closed to public touring
for most of the summer. Good news: We are opening for one week only to help celebrate the 146th running of the Kentucky Derby! Old Friends will offer guided walking tours at 10 am and 1 pm daily from Monday August 31 - Sunday September 6, 2020. Tours are limited to eight (8) people and are $25 per person. (So sorry, but we cannot accommodate children under 12.) In addition, Old Friends's Michael Blowen will host a founder's tour daily at 12 pm. These tours are also limited to eight (8) guests and are $50 per person. Masks are required at all times and, unfortunately, we cannot provide golf carts for any tours at this time. Reservations are required (no walk-ins); you can call us to reserve a spot at (502) 863-1775. Come meet new retirees The Pizza Man and Breeders' Cup champion Work All Week (pictured, right)!
COME TO "ART ON THE LAWN"
If you can't join us for a tour, drop in to our "Art on the Lawn" sale. During this same week, Sept 1 - Sept. 6, between 10:30 am and 3:00 pm we will feature an outdoor art sale --properly socially distanced--at our Visitor's Center parking lot, featuring photos and high-end artwork of many racing greats, including Barbaro, American
Pharoah, Affirmed, Chateaugay, Spend a Buck, and many others. Artists include Barbara
Livingston and Celeste Susany (Left: Susany's depiction of Silver Charm's Derby run). Most pieces are framed and ready to hang.
COLLECT A CHARITY FOR CHAMPIONS BOTTLE
Old Friends is proud once again to be among the beneficiaries of the Breeders’ Cup/Maker’s Mark Charity for Champions program. The 2020 Limited-Edition collectible bottle honors James E. “Ted” Bassett III, a former Keeneland and Breeders’ Cup President who has long been regarded as Thoroughbred Racing’s Gentleman Ambassador. Proceeds from the auction will support Old Friends, the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, and the Race Track Chaplaincy of America’s COVID-19 relief efforts. Bottles are available for a donation of $400 until Breeders’ Cup weekend (Nov. 6-7) and fans can secure theirs now by visiting the Charity for Champions website: CLICK HERE. Bottle fulfillment and pick up information will be announced in the coming weeks.
BUY A COOL T-SHIRT
This new T-shirt features 1997 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner, Silver Charm relaxing at Old Friends. Buying a shirt will help support our herd of over 200 retired thoroughbreds! AND you get a cool shirt. Shirts are made of Gildan Ultra Cotton and are offered in unisex sizes YXS - XXXL. All proceeds benefit Old Friends. CLICK HERE TO ORDER
